clutch pedal stiffness
Is there an (easy) way to adjust the stiffness of the
clutch pedal on a 911 88? I looked through everything I could get my hands on and only found something about adjusting the clutch pedal course. Thanks Ludovic |

nope. Stifness pretty much depends on how worn the clutch is, unless there is something wrong with the system.

I think it depends on why it is stiff. If the throwout bearing is dry on the shaft then it is not easy. There is an adjustment on the clutch pedal assist spring that can adjusted to reduce pedal pressure. I don't think it does much though

The first Carreras with the G50 transmission (87's and I believe some 88's) had a flaw in the release lever pivot shaft. The needle bearings eventually get dry and then the shaft tries to seize, resulting in very high pedal pressure to release the clutch.
There are two kits to fix the problem, a factory one and an aftermarket, but they both require dropping the engine/trans to install. If you do a search for G50 and update you should get a lot more info. Hope this helps.

an 88 with a hydraulic clutch can't be all that stiff, can't it? Try an 84-85 instead and you will know what stiff is.
Anyway, not much adjustment is possible in any case. YOu can make sure that they work as new by replacing all defective components.

Also, replacing your clutch doesn't necessarily mean a lighter clutch pedal. It really depends on the pressure plate you choose. Pedal "smoothness" is a more important criteria. I recently installed a KEP pressure plate (Centerforce clutch) and the pedal is about 30% stiffer / firmer than the stock setup, but is smooth as glass. A great feel and clamps like a vice!
Good luck. My bet is that you need the fork update. If your clutch is the original, it may be a good time to do the entire system.
