Can anyone tell me the actual weight of a 1979 SC Coupe with AC, sunroof and power windows?

My stock euro '80 without me or gas weighs 2450 lbs. Measured on accurate corner scales. Lighter than I had expected. Does have power windows and sunroof, but no A/C. I think that weighs around 70 lbs.

Should say in your owner's manual if you have it. I think that mine, ('82 U.S. coupe w/ sunroof, A/C), is 2750lbs. (1250kilos). It is in the specs& dimensions, look for *curb weight*.

I do not trust the owner's manual. Every time I have seen road tests of other cars, the actual weight is always higher then the manufacturer weight.

I think the manufacturers list the minimum possible weight with no options.

Wow, alot of differences...

79SC Targa with AC, no power @ 2550lbs. I'm hoping to get her down to at least 2400lbs

I think what you're seeing here is the variation of results from so many 'calibrated' and 'certified' scales. In my experience, my car has never weighed anywhere close to the same amount on any two different scales.

And like speedometers, scales seem to tend toward optimism.

As I've always understood it, the base weight of an SC was 2560 pounds, and that's without the additional weight of the optional-but-commonly-equipped sunroof, power windows or air conditioning.

It's funny, but when my car was corner balanced, it weighed almost exactly what it says in the owner's manual, which is 2756 lbs. w/ a full tank. (Refered to as 'curb weight' in manual).

I don't know how they can print one weight when obviously equipment makes a difference, but in those days, (1980s), pretty much 100% of U.S. cars came w/ sunroofs and A/C.

For pretty accurate scales, find a place that rents construction equipment, they usually have digital drive-on scales.

My 1980 was similar to Speeder's when I got mine corner balanced. 3/4 tank of full, spare tire, with jack and tool kit was 2,830.

Weighed mine two days ago on a WSDOT scale. A little disappointing. 2640. A/C removed. Includes sunroof and power everything.

It depends on whether the scales belong to a longhood, SC or carrera owner

I bet mine is pretty light these days, no AC, power, sunroof... engine.

I cannot imagine what is missing on a 1980 euro car that would make it weigh 3-400 lbs. less than a similar U.S. model??

And A/C complete weighs something like 70 lbs., I think? And 20 gallons of gas weighs 140 lbs., so that would explain part of it.

Also no extra metal in the body work for crash protection that was mandated for US models. I heard Porsche didn't start using it in RoW models until a company engineer was in a bad accident.

Not to corrupt the SC thread but. . . my '86 Carrera weighs exactly 2710 with 1/2 tank of fuel, jack and spare (less driver). AC removed, aftermarket front seats, aftermarket exhaust, sans rear seats, washer bottles, fog lamps, and all interior sound deadener.
