Tire rub?!?!

I just got my HRE 540R's back from Al Reed, fully polished. They look great. When I mounted them on my C4S and started to back out of the garage, I heard a rub someplace. Being alone, I could not get out to isolate where the rub was occuring. I did a visual and it looked/felt like the calipers had plenty of room, the lips were fine, the liner was fine and the oil line was fine as well. I am going to jack up the car for a visual when I get home tonight but wanted to ask if anyone had any ideas? They are 18x8.5 225/40 50mm and 18x11 295/30 45mm. The fronts are 1/2 an inch wider than my stock 18x8 52mm but visually, everything looks like it clears/fits. Any thoughts? TIA.

Well if the rub is severe enough it will show up visually at some point. Were you turning when you heard it? If so, it may be the inner fender wall.

It was while the wheels were pointed straight ahead and kind of sounded like metal on metal brake against rotor.

I second the pads theory, when backing up don't the rear pads or ebrake adjust for seating?

New brake pads and rotors approx 10K miles and did not make a sound until after I changed the wheels.

had the car sat for a while? Dampness will leave a thin layer of rust on my rotors which will give me a light scraping sound until worn off by a few applications of the brakes.

Mark, I'll check. The car has been sitting in the garage for a few weeks but I doubt moisture would be the culprit in sunny Los Angeles.

Could it be lug nuts that are too long or short? I am using the factory lug nuts on the HRE wheels. TIA.
