turn signal indicator issue 72 911T

My 72 911T has had an issue with the turn signal indicators since I purchased the car. Both turn indicators would flash dimly together although all turn and brake signals worked fine. After reading a few threads on this forum I cleaned all the sockets . . replaced the bulbs and cleaned the relay pins and sockets (original Helle) and all works fine now except the indicators are reversed on the tach . . should I just switch the bulb wire locations in the tach or is my relay bad? I see Pelican now sells a new 4 pin relay for $20.

The tach is pretty easy to remove, I think all you need to do remove is the plastic cover that goes around the steering wheel. Give that shot first.

was not so bad . . switched the indicator wires and all is well now. Would it kill Porsche engineers to put a depression in the cover so you could remove the tach without removing the wheel!?

I’m not sure about the ‘72 - but I was able to wiggle my tach out enough to swap bulbs with steering wheel still in place.
I was able to lift the dash pad slightly and ease it out. It’s tight but doable.
And if you can slide the rubber ring back to get a little extra wiggle room.

Yes, you simply reversed the bulb sockets and if your fingers are slim enough you maybe be able to reach in and swap sockets by just tilting each side to access socket should do it.
Test operation before putting it back.

+ One note about the cover I found but didn’t bother was that there are two screws on either side of the housing I’m not sure if removing these will release the clamshell cover halves.

On the 72 there are two screws on the side but also two under the steering wheel so you have to remove the wheel to get the upper cover off . . and absolutely no room to move the tach when the cover is in place.

Ooops, sorry about that. I have had a quick release hub for so long now.
