Question Battery replacement: any tips on what to do for the positive terminal side?

it's the AGM battery from napa.

the long bolt doesn't fit in the original direction it was in.

I flipped it but tightening the nut seems like a chore.

any tips?

It’s a pain. I have a cheap 1/2” wrench that I cut short to fit in that space.. I believe I cut the open end off and retained the closed end with the small “angle” that helps angle the handle away from the body.

Also, not a bad idea to keep a small needle nose vise grip in the car if you ever needed to use a jump pack/jump cables.. I use the Vise grip to “extend” the terminal and connect my cable to the vise grip (Hope this makes sense)..

Why are you doing this when there are batteries which will just drop right in ?

Which ones?

I bought this back in 2022 after seeing it suggested on the forums.
It was acting weird the last couple of weeks and NAPA replaced it for free.

Open to other suggestions on brands/models.

For tight spots like that, ratcheting wrenches are useful. They come in flat, angled or hinged (flex-head) flavors. Stubby ones seem particularly versatile..

I have one recessed bolt on the back of my intercooler that is a pig with an open or ring wrench due to a tiny angle before the wrench fouls the end tank. Completely blind (overhang), no way to get a socket on.

Use a stubby 13mm ratcheting wrench & whistle happily for 15 seconds - you're done...

You need one with the poles reversed from that orientation. I believe some of the brands have an “R” or an “L” suffix to differentiate

Yes, R for reverse positive post location.

Allows you to rotate the batt 180° but keep the posts on the same plane (but on opposite side) as a non R batt.

Edit: since updated information to include L in this investigation. Seems the L stands for Positive Post Left, as illustrated here: https://batteryworldonline.com/products/odyssey-extreme-series-ods-agm28-pc925l

Having a left positive post moves the connection away from the inner fender and towards the fuel tank, which tend to have a protective coating and minimizing the chance to ground the wrench. BTW, the PC925 is a perfectly fine battery for non-frozen climates.

I ended up using the 12/13mm combo one in the toolkit!
Skinny enough to get in there. Hopefully I don't have to mess with it for a few years.

Interesting. Napa and Walmart ones both seem to be the same side..

I will keep an eye out. Let me know if you see one.

This is what I meant to say. You may have to go to an actual battery store like Batteries Plus as opposed to Walmart. These specialty shops have a wider selection and more knowledgeable staff.
