69S value
I'll borrow a digital camera and post a photo ASAP but....
I have a 69S that finances may force me to sell.I'd say it's an R Gruppe type car and I don't know what these kind of cars sell for. It has SC flares,2.7 pistons and cylinders, working MFI, 15x7 and 15x8 polished Fuchs, late 70's interior, H4's,Carrera tensioners,SC adjustable spring plates with new bushings, 28 and 21 torsion bars, turbo tie rods,.... I found one quarter sized rust bubble under the rocker trim which is being repaired, other than that no rust. Car is Gemini blue( I think),sunroof coupe. I have a 3 inch stack of repair and parts invoices and can document all major work.California car for most of it's life. Anyone want to take a shot at it's approximate value? |

I think its worth the price of shipping from Calgary to VA...
Sounds like a nice car. Has all the upgrades I would do. Is the motor a 2.5 mfi? Just wondering if you went with the 66 (stock 2.0) or 70.4mm crank with those 2.7 PC's.

Jamie...don't think the crank has been changed.I believe that means it's
2.5L MFI. If I have to sell it'I'll post it here first. I was really trying to get some idea of it's worth. I was hoping some of the west coast guys would chime in... |

Of course, it's hard to say, but as an example of the high end of the market, I have seen the 1970 @ at California Cars and do not doubt for a minute that they will get close to $35K for it.
http://www.californiacars.com/cardtl.cfm?stockid=30404 Possibly the best '70 S on the planet, IMHO. One of the best paint jobs I've ever seen. So a '69S, 2.5 MFI, SC-flared car could easily be in the high teens, even break $20K.

They're worth millions, rarest, highly collectible, first year of LWB, last year of original 2.0, MFI, schur, schnell, leight, but then I might be biased. Sounds like a neat car for the right person, just don't tell Wayne, because none of us wants to hear the Mg case lecture again...

Damn Mike, why now? Two years ago I would have bought it from you, in another two years I might, but right now I'm building a house so I don't have the money available.
From what I've seen of the market around here you might be able to get around 16k Cdn in the Calgary area, for more you are going to need to market and sell it to the States. Remember since it isn't original the fact that is WAS an S doesn't really help much. Especially since a lot of the 'desirable' S features sound like they have been replaced. IE the original Sports seats, no longer the original motor, body changes. So you need to sell it as a custom 911, (or Rgruppe as you mentioned) which means a different market. And I don't know how many people are in that market around here. Just as an example I paid $7,800 Cdn for a 1968 T with a 2.2 T motor, Weber Carbs, updated interior with partial leather and exterior updated with blacked out trim, flag mirrors, S spoiler etc. This car has some rust in the pan but I have been driving it the last 3 summers with no expenses other oil changes and a set of new tires/wheels. I intend to Rgruppe it as well some day but for now I just ignore the missing interior bits. Recently I have seen a 1973E, original owner, all original, asking $18,000, a 1972T with original motor and transmission, a 'project/parts' car, asking $4500.00.

That's exactly why I asked the question on Pelican's board.I know there's probably not much market around here, but it think it would be attractive to uor American friends, given the exchange on the dollar.
True, the car is not original and is not advertised as such. It may be better than original!!! It certainly has more power that the original motor... |

Here's another one from today:
69 Porsche 911T targa, 2.4 L MFI engine, no rust, good int, fair paint, duck tail, $14,500 obo And yes, it may be 'better' than original, as far as power and drivability. But in the world of Porsches an all original 69S trumps a modified one as far as price goes. Originality can't be duplicated, but modified can. I'd still love to be able to buy it from you though.....

This car in question has been on e-bay at least twice and possibly 3 times and never made reserve. I don't think it will bring $35K but you never know. It is well done from what I can see. Should have left the brightwork alone imho. Looks too "80's".

If that is the best restored 70 on the planet? Man that car is so "incorrect" it's pitiful. Yeah it's a beautiful car. Great paint etc. But "restored"? I don't think so. $38K.. even on the west coast....I don't think so. Sure maybe someone will pay that much for it if they love it. But I don't think it is fair to say it represents what an original 70 S would bring. pretty car though.
