Someone tell me I did this right, please (P201 engine stand)

Hi Everyone,

OK, I'm 99% sure I have this engine stand installed correctly, but I'm staring at it, mounted to a 500-pound fully dressed 930 engine, and it just doesn't pass the gut check.

I have the attachment bolts nearly bottomed out in the case. They are rated metric strength 8.8.

Can someone give me an "It'll hold, go for it!" ?? And is it OK to flip the engine upside down and rotate in either direction when it's mounted this way? I had more confidence when the engine was mounted to my generic stand with all four bolts (!).

And one last thing: This P201 is fairly long, which will multiply the weight applied to my 1000-pound-capacity stand. Is 1000 pound capacity a heavy enough stand?

I used the existing studs rather than bolts like the lower one in your picture. Used steel lug nuts from chevy as washers, and bolted it up.

I don't think my engine stand is rated higher than 1000lbs.

Ok to spin it around . . . . makes adjusting valves way too easy

I do not know that much about your P201 Cowtown. I have a traditional
Engine Stand. If none of the experienced Pelicans write in to answer your post I would run a chain or cable over a truss, heavy duty rafter or something to give me some security.

Yup, that's right.

I worked on a 930 engine a couple years ago - I know what you mean. Absolutely not confidence inspiring. But we turned it every which way and torqued down fasteners, hammered on it, etc, no problems.

The yoke will hold the weight of your engine and then some, probably double that weight. Not sure about your stand, want to post a picture? Also, did you remove your lower passenger side stud, (engine to trans)? Usually that is used, not a bolt.

Hey thanks everyone. I'm feeling better and will give it a spin after work tomorrow.

Wayne, my engine anxiously awaits the new Sachs Power Clutch kit you're sending me. I just couldn't justify some of those other specialized setups, pricewise.

Speeder, I actually removed both studs and used bolts (of different lengths - that's why there are more washers on the top one. Both are screwed all the way into the case though). I was going to use the studs, but couldn't find enough spacers. There's never a hardware store open when you need one.

Looks like it's going to work...here's the 1000-lb rated stand. I had to use a piece of sheetmetal flashing to take up a little slack between the P201 and the stand's receptacle. I didn't mention it before, but I also had to grind the P201 a bit to clear the exhaust crossover flange.

I know what you mean though... You'd think it would rip those bolts right out, but I've enver heard of it happening! Made me nervous too, but my rebuild (and those of many others) can't be wrong.

The mounting (as Wayne says) is perfect...
