Which VDO or other aftermarket tachs are out there?

Have an old school 80's or 90's VDO drag racing tach and it's dying I believe in my '87.

Bought a new VDO tach, but it doesn't seat deep enough unfortunately into the dash to allow the blinker console clamshells to fit back around the steering column.

The bezel collides and a real bummer as it looked so nice.

Anyone found a nice looking, yet matching fonts aftermarket tach that goes to at least 8k RPM that is not tainted with the Porsche tax (shift light and signal indicators a plus)?

SpeedHut appears to now offer gauges for our air cooled cars. Had their gauges in my previous LS2 Miata. Nice product.

Wished they were 5" instead of 4 1/4", but yes, they look nice and the price is right.

Thanks.

AutoMeter has a wide selection in 5". Direct hook up and good acton.

May or may not fit with factory rubber sleeve. Simple solution to fit properly.

Didn’t see one big enough and the fonts weren’t close enough to my liking. Maybe I didn’t see the right one

The ol’ Monster tach. My first one was in 1993 or 1994. Nice it fits perfectly like that!

Are used stock tachs that expensive? I had John Bell (member on here) did one for me, and I have 2 others in a box, including a RUF tach. Benefit is these can be made ot look anyway we want now. Downside, the movements in some of them at sticky, etc and they are not easy to fix.

I also LOVE the Stack tach's, very rally car'esque.

+1 on Speedhut. I have their gauges in another one of my cars and really like them. The tach has 3 lights to show when you are approaching your shift point or redline, and you can set them as you like. It can also record highest RPM reached.

My redline is a little higher than stock, so I rather go aftermarket for shift light and not bury the needle to unknown RPM’s.

I’d assume the accuracy of modern tachs are better, too, but don’t know. Erroring on side of caution

Makes total sense! I took have wanted a shift light for fun, another reason I like the stacks. I ahve a shift light module though by MSD, uses a chip to set the RPM and activates a red light. I will put that light above my tach to the right, maybe. My car is also a street car, and it’s light weight combine with the torquey 3.6 mean I don't need redline to be going pretty quick.

The green gauges are John Bell’s work, and the RUF tach I got from a friend who had an original RUF Slantnose, and this was a spare tach he no longer wanted.
