1975 Silver Anniversary Seat Cover Replacement

we bought the correct seat covers for our 75.
the silver anniversary covers ve a cloth weave insert in the center.
the seat covers we had on were not the originals they were full vinyl.
the seat guy is installing the covers and the back portion of the seat is curved and the clothe is not curved and does not adhere to the seat back.
Quesion: should this be glued to the seat back?

thanks

No, don’t glue seat backs. They need to move freely otherwise you’ll just pull apart the backing and foam.

Something is awry with installation or the cover itself like seams not sewn properly. Did they reuse the old foam backs? Maybe they’re too worn out and not filling the void, pattern should be the same anyway.
Curves are achievable with the placement of hog ties and cord to the design of the fabric pattern. Basically pulling, tucking and fastening to get it in place.
Sometimes new fabric can look too taunt and over-stretched and some relief will occur with use, but no glue, generally the seat cover should form closely to the padding foam.
How much space is between fabric and back foam? Post some pics.

About a 1/2” between materiall and foam.
Foam is original and is in good shape 90000 miles.

1/2” isn’t much, probably within the spec, there’s a good chance it’s going to settle in with repeated use and begin to take on the conforming shape.
There’s almost always a difference on aesthetics when reupholstering than what we’re used to seeing as originally.
Pretty straight forward slip on a cover, so long as your seams are aligned, really think the 1/2” material will stretch out a bit, summer heat and sunlight is going to help big.

If the side vertical seams are misaligned (doubt it) you could try manipulation and grab each side vinyl/leather material and pull it towards the front to gain some slack into the fabric area, if can’t grab any, use pushing and massaging. Do this when interior is heated by sun light.

It seems to be a systemic issue. I don’t know… I just had a set of Lakewell (Belguim) covers that don’t fit well. The reason I went with Lakewell was the appear to have license to use the Porsche Shield and embossed it into my headrests. The local guy who installed, a real upholsterer, said it looked like they sent me two drivers sides. I contacted Lakewell and go back one response, after a long time, and I replied and now I hear crickets chirping. I’m hoping they wear in to shape. I’m not sure if I want to hit them with some steam.

Still 10,000% better than Lseat.com! What a disappointment and disservice they were.

Looks like both your seats could have used some steam on the foam to puff it back up before the covers were installed. Makes a big difference.

Those look like they fit pretty well and will probably look better after some use.

Seats look great! Nice job. Love the mid 70’s stuff. Any plans for the remainder of the interior?

I’m in the process of doing my interior now - very similar to yours but cinnamon color - ‘76 Signature Edition.

Sport drivers & comfort passenger. Lakewell made the covers in the correct materials. I’m slow but doing the interior panels myself. Semi RS style / theme since my body has RS rear flares. Adding a rollbar with rear seat delete.

Thank you. Your seats look great

The interior door cards, back seats and sides are original so leaving them alone. The front seats were all vinyl and after they ripped 5 years ago, i went with the original cloth insert type.
My concern is leaving a screw driver in my back pocket again
