Is this a sufficient Flywheel Lock?

I don't have the special tools for locking the flywheel, but I did have this steel "loop" from the generic engine mounting yoke. I looped it over one of the bolts to the case and a bolt into the flywheel.

Might this break a bolt off, or damage the case or flywheel?

They are only 66lb, so no problem. The yolk is on the wrong side for disassembly.

Thanks for the confirmation on the locking setup.

I ended up putting the yoke on the wrong side because I couldn't fit it onto the correct side while mounting the engine - the exhaust was rusted to the heat exchangers blocking access, and I couldn't get them off until I could flip the engine over on the yoke. So one of my next steps is going to be to flip the yoke. I'm working solo, but I think I can put a wood cradle on my motorcycle lift to hold it while I turn the yoke.

I think I might have used a double closed ended wrench to hold mine to the case bolt.

I've posted this a few times, but it is such a no brainer, everyone should see it. Just change orientation for loosening or tightening.

Your engine comes with a little bracket that serves double duty for this purpose. ;-)

Pro tip - don't do it how I did. Now I have a little bend in the last inch of the stud. Use the wrench method or something that lines up closer, and don't tighten it down with a bolt on the outside.

Hopefully the little bend isn't an issue.
