How well does your hood fit?

I have been fighting woth the hood on my car to get ot to fit correctly.

It has been a losing battle so far. I can't seem to get it to sit low were the hood meets the back corners, has anyone else had this problem in a restore job?
If so how did did you fix it

THanks

Derek

My short hood doesn't fit the way I'd like it to, but it's probably because the car had been in a few fender benders before I bought it. I've tried to line it up, but no luck...

Getting it to sit down in the back corners is as simple as shimming the forward bolts on the hood hinges.

Why not just loosen the hinge bolts and rotate the hinge backwards untill the hood fits?

I once installed new hood shocks on a 69` with a perfect fitting hood . Once the new highly pressurized shocks were installed the rear of the hood (in closed position) stood almost 1/8" higher than it should . I removed the new set and bought another set from another supplier and the problem was solved .
Try removing the upper pins on your shocks and see how it fits . Maybe your set is supercharged like the set I had .
I sold those stiff shocks on ebay about a year ago . I hope you didnt buy them from me

Well, both of the above answers are right. If the one by Kevin doesn't do it all, then the one by Bill will save the day. That's the only way I know to do the rear lid, with washers or spacers between the lid and the hinge, either in the bolt furthest from the hinge to lower or in the other to raise.

But, there are a lot of adjustments for the front hood. I think Damon, many others and I all agree that the car goes together from the back to the front with the hood being the last thing to go on. It helps to leave the bolts loose on the front fenders for a little tweaking, but they still have to reference the front of the door which has to reference the rear quarter.

I havent' been able to find the rearmost bolt on the front hinge mounts, so that didn't occur to me... the front two are hard to miss...

Keep in mind that if you (or a P.O.) have ever had a hood fly-up, your front hinges are possibly tweaked beyond useful adjustment.

The reason your hood isn't low enough in the front is because you are missing...

-- Mine wasn't sitting even and a shop recommended I replace a hood hinge that to them looked worn. I would have never suspected it but I replaced it and that solved the problem.

Are you meaning a half of an inch (!!??) when you say .5 ???? Something seriously wrong there.........

Hell, you could put in a front mounted oil cooler and use that as the exhaust for the hot air!! (Except that is a high pressure area and it wouldn't work well.)

The hood for my Gimp outfit is a great fit.

The hood on my front ended car isn't perfect sadly....

Ummm...is it just me or does your car look twisted in the photo?

Put the hood aside for a minute - does the right fender look higher than the left? Could be an optical illusion but that pic looks funny to me.

I would take some measurments on the body to make sure you are not hanging a hood on a tweeked tub.
