Putty/sealant under fixed quarter window moulding
 

Hi all,

I found two types of putty/sealant under the trim moulding and the rubber seal that surrounds the fixed rear quarter windows.

This flat, grey "butyl" strip is available from our host:

The other is this black, malleable, tar-like stuff that has been liberally applied under and around the moulding.

I'm hoping someone can tell me a name and source for this?

Looks like it. Also used by Porsche in the corners of the windshield

Thanks, I wondered if that might be it. According to Google, they stopped making it in 2010 due to it containing a banned substance. Apparently, there are a few products that might be used instead, so it anyone here has used a suitable replacement, please let me know.

Having just redone this area of my car, the gray tape putty in the first picture looks factory. It can be bought in a lol, and is used there, and also between the front fender to the body. The black…….that I ahve not seen in any PET etc. Also not seen in on the 3 911’s I ahve seen come apart as my car was being worked on. Might have been an after market fix.
