3.6 Conversion Wiring & Vacuum Questions
 

Anyone who has experience with a 3.6 conversion, specifically Varioram, please feel free to chime in. And don't hesitate to explain it to me like I graduated from the School of Kids Who Can't Read Good.

The engine I purchased has the full harness, and everything looks like it mates up. My question is I was provided the following diagram and I'm not exactly sure what to do.

I have this harness which will plug into the ECU via the DME relay.

Now which one of these two black boxes do I wire the 1) start signal, 2) oil temp, 3) backup light, 4) oil pressure light, 5) alternator, 6) oil pressure gauge, 7) heater control signal, 8) relay fuze panel?

Do I wire both? Apologies but wiring has never been something I've done. Do I just determine what wires correlate to those connections off of the main engine harness and just tape off all of the unused wires?

The vacuum canister. My engine came with one but my kit also came with a smaller two canister setup. The vacuum is currently set up for use with the stock canister, anyone know if that will fit in a 3.6 to G-Body?

If not, how do I determine where all these hoses plug into for the aftermarket setup?

I appreciate any guidance, getting the transmission mounted today and engine under the car. The wiring and vacuum are the only hurdles (for now) that I think I've got left.

I do have to say, the exhaust from Fabspeed looks pretty nice!

Oooo you've got a project going here. Lots to sort through. You will need to get comfortable with the systems side of things.

I think you need to get with S.Timmons on the harness questions. I received lots of instructions that didn't actually apply. It looks like you bought a kit from Instant-g (I did too). Maybe start there. My DME harness was plug and play minus 4 wires that needed to be spliced under the driver seat. I see your DME is on the same harness as your 14 pin connectors in the back? Where is your ignitor and 55-pin connector? Usually the ignitor, DME, and 55-pin connector all end up under the driver seat. Not saying it can't go another way, but that's the way mine is setup so what I'm used to. Maybe I've misunderstood too.

For vacuum, you have plenty to start with there. Folks will use either the two side by side 964 canisters, or the 'egg crate', as I like to call it. The egg crate has more volume over the two 964 canisters and can be fit into the LH rear wheel well if you're handy. I currently run the two 964 canisters and it seems to be fine.

For routing, Steve likes to run the check valve right off the intake, then running out to the various devices. You will need to provide the reservoir capacity to the two solenoids on your intake manifold. From there, the vacuum needs to be distributed to the three servos/pistons. Pay attention to the solenoid wiring as that will tell you which servo/piston is being driven. Don't drive your resonance flap with your trumpet servo, and vise versa. I would probably start buying vacuum connectors and line as you'll want to replace anything suspect.

Make sure you get this stuff right before you button it up. It's a bich to work under the varioram with it in the car.
