1987 3.2 coupe
Summer:
Tires -Firestone Firehawk Indy 500, F: 215/45R17, R: 255/40R17
Wheels - Mille Miglia Cup 1 replicas, F:7.5x17 ET23, R:9x17 ET15

All-season:
Tires - Continental ContiExtremeContact, F: 205/55R16, R: 225/50R16
Wheels - OEM Fuchs, F: 16x6 ET36, R: 16x7 ET23

The Contis are more than a few years old, but they are still in very good condition.

The Firestone tires are, IMHO, vastly underrated and one should remember that as far back as the 917, Porsche used Firestone racing tires.

Oh, and the cup 1 replica 17's are painted gold which (again, IMHO) look very nice on my black/black car.

Conti Extreme Contact (summer/auto-x duty) in stock sizes on 16x7 & 16x8
Conti DWS the rest of the year. Also have the DWS on my Audi A5 and they are wonderful.

The summer/auto-x tires look like they are going to last the season which is pretty great honestly. Not noisy, solid in the rain too. re: wear - I’ve seen some of the turbo suv drivers go through tires in a single day. Physics is a harsh mistress.

Love them both although I am Bridgestone curious…. An old schooler I know who does endurance racing recommended I check out the Falken Azenis RT660+ although sizing appears to be an issue there.

tires feel great but i don't like the look..
the front ones look like winter tires..
for my area, Vancouver BC they are great though.

I'm a life long Michelin guy, but after reading a number of positive comments on these forums about the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500, I decided to try them. I like them just fine so far. About $250 less than Michelin PS4s for a set, and perform well, at least for the type of driving I do. Worth considering, I think.

Firehawk looks nice... but like the PS-AS4, they only come in 225, not 245 on the 16" wheel - 9" rim is a bit big to run 225

Agreed, but going to 17's helps quite a bit in terms of selection.

I know 17 inch rims aren't cheap, and one has to be careful not to add too much additional unsprung weight, but IMHO it is a worthwhile expenditure.

I am running the General - G Max RS, they are owned by Continenal.

On the second set of rear tires and they are just as good as my old Conti Extreme Sport tires and quieter on the highway.

No issues flinging the Targa around the paved and unpaved backroads while leading a group on my BBQ runs in NC.

I’m a big Conti ECS02 fan. I’ve driven them hard, tracked them, and they do very well in the wet — “summer tire” really means “not great below 35F and in standing water” but they are fantastic otherwise. Not buzzy or too stiff either, and tolerate being aired down to 29-30psi without issue.

Trying some Yokohama AD09’s, which are stickier, about as good in the wet, but have stiffer sidewalls and aren’t lasting as long.
