Saving a crusty 79 Targa

I got started on this project a few months back. 1979 Targa SC that has spent more time off the road than on it. 1998 was the last registered year. With a settled on price of $2400. Car has no drivetrain. Car is getting a 3.6 VR6 swap. Some may remember my black 993 VR6 turbo build.

How rusty is it? Car sat outside for years with no top lol Probably not often you have to go through the seat to unstick the seat sliders.

Rust repair. Pedal box was shot. Had to grind the nuts off. Floor is solid though which is very surprising.

Previous owners never jacked this car up properly so a lot of hammering to get the floors straightened out.

In for more! I've followed this build on Instagram a bit. Loved the 993 back in the day

Doing the same for my '83 right now. Same issue with pedal box. Will also be using the Restoration Design piece as shown in the front & new gas tank. My mechanic is doing the work, not me. We are going to use the original 3.0 and 915 gearbox, after rebuild. Lot of rust on the body different places. All new brake components. Restored targa top. New appbiz door panels. New used pair of seats. New tires, of course. Original Fuchs.

Good luck with yours.....subscribed!

Got the bumper fitted up. Pops right on and off and is a snug fit when mounted.

And trailers. Learned my lesson on my 993 that extremely low cars do not get on trailers gracefully lol

I’ve been trying to figure out the regulator/glass info.

I have the Parallel arms. I have no idea if they are from a coupe or Targa or if it matters. Do these work and i just change out the Targa window channel circled in green? Is there any way to tell what year the doors that i have are? I’ve exhausted myself searching old threads and it’s all very confusing.
