According to Porsche Red Book:

1969 911T (Targa) chassis. Engine is from a 1969 911T Coupe (Sporto non-US)

Ah Ha!!!

This is where I'm having trouble.... Jack has it, it is in fact my 1969 911 COUPE with sporto (Australian delivered). But I too have the Red Book telling me it is a TARGA. I have the cardex which tells me it is an original coupe, so I think the red book must be wrong. But here's the rub, the cardex says the car came with 2.2 In a 69???

Anyone else have a 69 with an original 2.2?

Cheers

Hi,

My cars VIN is 119 100 148 which means it rolled off the production line 3 cars after yours and mines a 2.0.

Your VIN makes it a Porsche Coupe not (Karmann coupe)

However it appears to have an engine from a targa. As 1969 targa engines had the engine number fall between 6193001-6193297 and it is a 2.0

Hope this helps

Simon

Thanks Simon, but now you've really muddied the water!

Like I say, I have a copy of the delivery docket and cardex which gives the same numbers as I quoted above as well as stating the car to be a coupe. When I bought the car my mechanic contacted Porsche in Melbourne and recieved a fax quoting all I've said above AND the engine capacity to be 2.2 (engine type 911/06) producing 125hp.

Now my head hurts!

Our cars must have been on the same refugee boat!

All the 619 XXXX engine numbers are 2.0

If it was a 911/06 (2.2) the engine number would be 610 XXXX

Cheers Simon. I think it might be time for a call to Porsche... I'd guess my cardex is right, but the accompanying fax must be incorrect.

John, have you looked at the "type" code stamped on your engine?

There seem to be clear errors in the Red Book. My year-2000 edition lists engine nos. 6193001-6193297 as 901/13 Sportomatic, non-US. That's fine. But it also lists 6193001-6192455 as Sporto Targas. This must be a typo, since the sequence would have to go in reverse to make any sense of these numbers. I'd bet it was supposed to be 6192001--6192455 for the Sporto Targas.

However, Sonic dB is right, the red book lists 11910001-119111282 as Targa numbers, even as it explains the new 1969 numbering system in a contradictory way.

119100145

11 = 911
9 = 1969
1 = T Engine
0 = Coupe
0145 = build number

Your car is clearly a coupe, and your serial number indicates it. But the red book is screwed up for 1969. (Must have been the drugs going around back then. )

Thanks Jack. My car certainly does envoke feelings of the 60s and 70s especially when I don my "carrera" sunglasses and pale blue safari suit, so I can understand a few errors made

It still doesn't explain my engine though. Jim I'll definitely have a proper look at my type number. That's the one near the fan?

Well at least your engine number falls into some catergory.

Mine is 619 2459 and according to all sources doesnt fall into any catergory as they only went up to 619 2455

Weird hey!

Simon
