New to me 911 ***update***

Good evening all!

Update on my 79SC.

Recap- smoked like a fog screen when I got it. Had oil in the air box behind air filter. Drained and refilled oil to 8 qts. Removed and drained muffler. Reattached and similar smoke show. Also had a glow (fire) in the HE, saw it through the welds. Removed muffler and HEs. More oil out of muffler, and cleaned/drained HEs. New gaskets, hardware and reinstalled everything.

Good news! No smoke! Drove it for 30-40 minutes to get it hot. Checked oil several times and slowly added oil to 10.75 qts- not quite halfway between min and max marks on dipstick when hot.

Drove it again the next day for similar time frame. I am seeing slow drips on right side (passenger) HE and oil cooler fins are wet. Valve covers are dry. Suspect the cooler an/or the TOD are the culprits.

New issues- front left tire rubs the clamp for the fuel line (I think) when making left turn. 205 55 R16. See pic. Would some of you mind showing yours for comparison? Some PO work in there and I’m not sure it’s correct.

Tach was jumpy, then finally quit.

Need to listen to other similar cars, this seems to have a slight knock, hot or cold. Gas is really old (1.5 yrs min).

Same size tires as you. Mine is a 84 with Euro ride height. Plenty of room.

86 with 205/55/16

FYI, those are the AC lines. I would look at routing the lines like ours.

Thanks so much for the pics. Can I bother you to do another showing exactly how yours are routed? I figure the problem hose should be more to the outside. Seems like there’s a recess for the hoses to fit.

Many many thanks.

The two lines shouldn't cross on the underside. They shouldn't cross at all. Yours are pretty exposed.

Yes they are. Much work has been done here by the PO. Many tie-wraps around those hoses routing along the top of the wheel well and then into the frunk.

Guess I’ll have to see how best to move it.

Many thanks.

Glad you sorted the smoke issues!

Unless you really want/need AC in your car, you might just delete it. If you have the need/want you are probably going to want to upgrade it to a more modern system. Plenty of threads here about that. I’m an open roof targa driver, so no AC for me!

Some of the Tie-wraps are stock. They are used to route lines together along the front wheel arch. AC lines also have their own attachment brackets to the body.
I would keep and possibly upgrade the AC but not delete it. It all depends on where you live, but unless it is North Pole, AC is always useful at some point during the year.

The tie wraps are white and they are plenty. PO was doing something with the AC. The compressor and mounting bracket are in bin with several additional hoses. I plan to get it working again, eventually. Way down on the list.

Along the front wheel well… I’ll keep looking for info and pics and see exactly where and what hardware people use.

Many thanks!
