75 A alternator into early fan housing

Hi all,
I am looking at swapping the 78 SC fan and housing for a circa 72-ish 245 mm fan and mag housng. It appears I can get a bit more airflow with this setup. However, the 75A internal regulator Valeo alternator won't fit, it seems, due to the difference in depth dimensions between the SC fan/housing and the (2.4) fan/housing.

Has anyone converted one of these earlier fan housings before to accept the later SC alternator? I am thinking about chucking the housing in my lathe if necessary-if it fits. My lathe has a small swing.
TIA
Pat

A machine shop with a mill will make short work of it. Just match depths.

Internal regulator

I found this Valeo in a box in the garage. It appears to be in very good condition. It is going into an SC which has no external regulator, This alternator appears to be internally regulated. Can anyone confirm this by the photo? How do I identify the regulation?

The black piece with 4 screws contains the brushes and VR in one unit.
The remote VR style brush holder has a male spade terminal marked DF.

Pat: The alternator pictured is internally regulated. If you look at the 3 o’clock position, the box type item is the voltage regulator with brushes. On a non internally regulated alternator has, only a brush holder. The brush holder has a terminal usually marked DF. and connects to the external voltage regulator.

Good find. Rob

Thanks Dennis and Rob!
I thought it is internally regulated. I have no idea where I got it years ago, but I am surprised to see a 50A alternator with and internal regulator.

Our 175A alternator is the same length as the early alternator so fits the early housing directly.

Anyone know of a machine shop in Southern California that can mill fan housing to correct depth for 75A depth for Valeo.

^ I would not do this. The early fan housings are stronger due to having more material - keep it that way.
