Manual Top Conversion

So I'm finally fed up with the latching motors of the auto top of my '88 Carrera. Three parts of question here:

1. Do I need any other parts than the following?
Latch/L 964 565 031 00 x1
Latch/R 964 565 032 00 x1
Sckt screw 6x16 900 067 117 07 x6
Washer 6.4 N 011 524 7 x12
Lock Plate 911 565 707 01 x2 (Is this needed, or is it a targa-only item?)
Handle 911 565 075 62 70B x2
Rosetta to cover the left over hole

Now these are all obtainable new from Pelican or other places, and come up cheaper than the conversion kit dc auto sales. Any reason to go for the kit, and not just acquire the parts yourself? The said kit runs $1,100 these days.

2. If I only convert the latching mechanism to manual, and keep the raising/lowering mechanism powered, any circuit conversion I need to do to the main motor? For those of you who have/had done this conversion, do you recommend semi, or full manual? I do not mind the weight of the top if going full manual.

3. Is there any concern going full manual in terms of high speed open top driving? I mean if you loosen the main hinge bolt to let the top be free from the main motor, will it cause the top to be insecure against strong wind at >highway speed?

Many thanks for your wisdom. Want to free myself from worrying about the power top.

The manual strikers on the w/s frame are different than power top ones.

I've heard this so many times. I've posted on threads, called and emailed. Never heard a word back.

To the OP, the header piece on manual top cars is different too. I think you need that. Not just the rosettes.
