Center cap Porsche crest
The Porsche crests on the rims center cap all need to be replaced after 15 years and about 100,000 thousand miles. These are the ones from Porsche with the red and black cloisonne inserts. The red has fallen out of all of them leaving just the black cloisonne. I've searched for posts, called our host along with a Porsche dealer and others but all everyone sells at the caps with the crest for about $200 plus per set. All I need are the little crests. Last option is to have polish them and have the red painted onto them.
Any ideas?

Go to a hobby shop and get some Testers paints and some brushes. I've re-touched my center caps a couple of times like this.

They look great. But, they did fade after long term use-20 years. Gerry

I actually had mine restored by a jeweler friend of mine.....for free. They look fantastic. Do you know any jewelers?

Last resort I may have to paint in the red. Sure would like the originals though. Thanks

The 356 hood crest looks like a winner. However our host now wants $71 a piece. Almost $300 for a set versus painting (and polishing) the ones I have is causing me to hold off. $200 is a little more reasonable versus the paint and polish. Also seems like a real difference between painting them versus the original in lays. Thanks all and especially for the alternative source. I've spent hundreds this year at our host and been very happy but spending almost $300 is gonna cause my wife of 45 years to question my sanity.

Bumping this thread.
I just bought the 356 Hood crest for my '88 Fuchs center caps from Sierra Madre. However when I unpacked them I realized that the pin placement on the back of the crest does not line up with the center cap holes. Will require a hole drilled in the center cap for the new pin. FYI |

Go buy a tiny paintbrush, Testor's model enamel at a hobby store. It's not too hard. A toothpick can be used to "flow" in drops of paint, also.
BE SURE to spray on a coat or two of automotive clear lacquer paint to protect the enamel. I did this and the results were great. Have a beer or two before; it steadies the hand! ![]() |

Testor's paint
I concur on the tester's paint. I just finished mine yesterday. I got a very fine paintbrush and took my time. Not perfect, but it kept my original metal caps and saved me about $400

They look great!!
The first go-around on my hubs, I did NOT lacquer them, and the enamel flaked off over about a year. Second time I sprayed with auto parts store spray clear lacquer, and they still look good as new. Dulls the gold a bit but worth it. |
