81 SC Residual Fuel Pressure problem!

1981 911 SC wasn’t firing after sitting hot for an hour. Read forums and watched youtube. Gauges revealed great system pressure but no residual fuel pressure holding after shutdown. Worked my way down the list: fuel pump and its check valve, pressure accumulator, and finally pulled the push valve in the fuel distributor. Pulled the spring assembly and found there was no “O-ring” on the piston. None! Replaced o-ring and expected immediate resolution. But curiously no change…… how could that be? Had to think on that for a few days. Pulled push valve assy. out again for closer inspection. Long story short, I failed to realize that 75 percent of the old O-ring still seated in the Fuel Dist. Had to fish it out, now piston seats properly. Now, I have residual fuel pressure. Happy day.
