Classic Retrofit AC Odd Issue

I have a single condenser system installed and I simply cannot get cold air out of the passenger side. I get 55 degree cold air out of the driver side vents but 75 degree air out of the passenger side directly from the blower box.

I have had three different shops refill the freon, all have experience with CR AC, I blocked off the heater vents, updated the software and have all but given up. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

The one side vs another tells me it’s not Freon. Maybe a mixing valve is not behaving right, and/or fresh air is getting into that warmer side? I had this issue on mine when I did my install, and in my case it was a mixing valve misbehaving.

Air comes out of the blower cold, so check taht on that side, and then just follow the hose to the mixing valve, should be cold there. Then check the output to the vent…basically just work your way along the path the air takes, and see where the cold air stops.

That is where I started. The temp difference is directly at the blower box. Meaning that I took all of the hoses off and tested right at the unit.

IIRC you have raised this before. The evaporator WILL be colder on the side of the expansion valve, but maybe just a few degrees. When the air comes through the evaporator it is all mixed together anyway, not divided side to side.

What happens if you temporarily block off the driver's side outlet, do you get colder air on the passenger side?

it might be time to take off one of the blower end caps and see if there is something amiss inside. Leaves on one side or a foam seal dislodged?

Is the volume of air coming out the left vs right different? That would indicate a blockage of some sort. I know there are some plastic pieces inside the blower cages and if one of those was dislodged it could restrict air flow. That wouldn’t necessarily explain such a temperature delta.

Time to open up the blower unit and take a look inside.

^. Actually what I was thinking is that air could be getting past the evaporator without having to go through it so the flow might still appear quite even. There is a foam seal top and bottom of a Gen 1 blower.
