3.2 swap issues…

Swapping a 89 3.2 motor into a 1980 911SC

Having a no start issue. No fuel pump (works when connect old wire used in SC setup), no spark, no RPM bounce when cranking

Where I’m at.

1) New DME Relay
2) swapped both speed and ref sensors for new

No change.

-No spark and no fuel pulses to injectors when cranking when tested with meter.
-ICV vibrates when key on, so harness at least getting power

At this point I’m thinking it’s either the DME itself, or I am dumb and wired something wrong. So before I shell out some cash for a new DME if any guru’s can review my wiring to tell me if I’m missing something. Changed the wiring in the 14 pin connectors, but those should have no bearing on this.

Did you remove the distributor? Could it be 180 out? Are the fuel lines reversed? Check the fuel pressure. Get a Bentley 3.2 manual, it has a nice troubleshooting section.

Here is the diagram that I used for my 914. As far as I know you also need a starter connection to the ignition switch.

I'm assuming you're using a 3.2 flywheel with the studs/pins to trigger the speed & reference sensors? Also, someone here (I think it may have been John Walker) reported a new replacement flywheel he installed had studs/pins made of stainless steel -- looked right but wouldn't/couldn't trigger the sensor.

Also, could you have possibly crossed the connections for the speed and Ref sensors? they are the same sensors and connectors, so it would be easy to accidently connect the speed to ref and ref to speed connectors at the harness.

Thanks for the input everyone. Went through everything again yesterday with a helper, and the Bus in the fuse box I connected to was not getting cranking power. Should have started there but followed too closely a write for up a 3.2 swap to an older model which has a different order. This is why everything was getting power when testing, but when cranking no spark, DME power was being cut.

So after cranking and checking all the terminals with a meter for switched AND cranking 12V had success and all is up and running!
