Flag mirror base on 911S 1976
I have flag mirrors on both the driver and passenger sides, pictures of both are below. This 911S has had half a dozen owners and I suspect one of them put the flag windows on the car...
The drivers side is angled upward and I have tried several base versions that should hold the mirror horizontal, that mirror still is a at an angle. On the passenger side the mirror is horizontal and the base is different. Anyone have and idea of how I can level the drivers mirror without cutting the door? ![]()

It looks like whoever installed the mirrors put them both in approximately the same spot on the doors. The driver’s side is supposed to be lower down and further forward, which probably changes the angle.
Short of moving it and having to weld up holes and repaint the door, I’m not sure if there is much you can do. Flag mirrors were used on other Porsches like 944s and 928s, I guess it’s possible that the base from one of those might change the angle. |

Disassemble and take a look. It might be possible to move the mirror and redrill the holes while the base still covers the old holes.

I was afraid of of that.. I went hunting a couple of years ago for images of a mid-year 911 with flag windows and saw several that had the mirror in the location matching what SiliconeSurfer described.
I have pulled the mirror and base off in the past and discovered that someone cut up the door trying to mount the flag mirror. I tried and unfortunately, there is no way to move the base and still cover the holes that were cut out. Thanks for the info!

If you get a mirror base and the support plate for a RHD car it might work out/fit better in that area.
