How to make a 82 Targa Top fit a 72?
Hi,
I have a Targa top for a 1982 on its way to me. I want it to fit my 72. What modifications will have to be made to it for it to fit? THanks, Mike |

I think the pre 74 targas only had two locating pins at the back, while the 74 and later has three pins at the back. Just remove the center pin. You need some snap ring pliers to remove the snap ring that holds the center pin to the frame.

got it fixed
Top was on my porch from UPS when I got home today. I had to remove the middle alignment pin as mentioned in the previous post, and then had to remove two alignment covers (not sure what you call them, they slid over the two alignment pins in the rear), after that, top fits fine. Thanks!

Is there any way you could modify your Targa band to accept the middle alignment pin? The middle pin keeps the top more secure to the band.
Do you want to sell the middle alignment pin that you just removed? One of my top has a broken pin. |

Sorry, I dremeled it off
I would have gladly let you have the middle alignment pin but unfortunately, I dremeled it off, it looked way easier to remove it that way. It wasn't one of the steel alignment pins that are on the ends, it was more of a swiveled plastic piece. Take care,
