Smile Interesting Chance To Compare Performance

Hey All,

I took a great drive with the Southern Oregon Chapter of the PCA to Blue Lake, CA, which is near Arcata. We toured Mad River Brewing and had lunch there. The drive started in Grants Pass, OR, which is about two hours south of my home town. Anyway, we all convened (about thirty cars!) and headed south on I-199 to Cresent City, then Arcata on 101. If anyone has driven that road they can confirm that it has some wonderful twisty bits. A fair amount of RV traffic forced us to do "en-mass" passing. During these passes we'd knock it down a gear and do full throttle passes to get as many of our group around the RVs. Well, this is the highly unscientific impression of my '75 S with about 195 HP: I'd run up the tailpipe of SCs routinely, and would keep up the the Carerras (an '84, and two '87) with little difficulties. Also, a little surprising to me is that Boxters (normal) would shrink in the rearview mirror too. Of course, the C4S in the group ran away from all of us in the straights. I got a lot of positive comments on the way my car sounds (SSIs and GHL dual in/single out) and those that I ran away from commented on how strong the old girl ran. They said it was really dialed in. What a hoot. Light weight and good power that's what killed the giants in the '60s and '70s racing world and still works today.

Thanks for letting me share my enthusiasm,
Troy

I remember when the 25th anniversary edition came out. I was about 17 years old at the time, and working at a Porsche dealer washing cars. That was a very special car. Glad to hear they're still tearing it up!

Thanks Mike. You know, I just got back from an appraiser (minutes ago). I always thought the car would be grouped with the rest of the universally maligned middle year cars and be worth squat. This guy is coming up with some crazy number like $20K! Seems there aren't too many of these around anymore, or at least in nice, original condition. I would never see $20k for the car in a million years, but for insurance purposes its great.
The love affair rekindled after this weekend for sure.

I'm sure you would find the same thing to be true with your limited edition car.
Take care,

Troy

Troy,
My first indication that the car would be someshing special was that the sales manager at the dealer (looooong time employee) bought the first one that came in. I gladly detailed and filled that car with gas every week. Of course, I had to take it to a gas station that was miles and miles away (passing up several others)!
