Fitting 2.2T into a 1974

While I rebuild my CIS 2.7, I'm going to install a 2.2T with Carbs into my 1974. Other than the obvious fuel pump and other issues, what else do I need to change to fit the 2.2 into the car.

Change the flywheel and clutch? Anything else?

I don't think you'll have too many fitmant issues. What are you going to use for a fuel pump? Does pressure to the carb need to be regulated? I'm not familiar with the CIS system. Also, a 2.2T with carbs had really low HP and torque. Are you going to be happy? What about a "warmed over" 2.7 engine with carbs? If this is a build up, what about using the 70.4mm crank from the 2.7 in the 2.2??? Also, you could have possible emissions issues being in California.

But based on your # of posts and time spent here, you likely have a really good idea of what you're getting into.

1974 is now smog exempt. This is just temporary while I rebuild the 2.7, so I'm just doing this to keep it running.

Fuel pump, I'll use a low pressure fuel pump for carbs with a low pressure regulator. My biggest concerns are the 2.2 was designed for a 901 and the1974 has a 915. I'm fairly sure I can just remove the flywheel and clutch assembly and mount up the 915.

Usually people go the other way, 915 into an early car, or Early car, late Engine....

Just trying to make sure I'm not missing something big.

I have just finished doing the opposite to what you propose above...
2.7 bolted up to a 901 on my 70T
That 915 should bolt right up to the 2.2, same clutch, flywheel.
May pay to change over the senders from the 2.7 to the 2.2. to ensure your gauges read fine.
Possibly may have to change over the wiring loom too. I dont know if they are different in any way.
Check that the 2.2 has the same make of Altenator too.
You could also have an issue with the fitting on the engine oil cooler, a spare 2.2E motor in my shed has a threaded oil line fitting, where my 2.7 had a push on hose held with a hose clip.
Good luck.
