rusty brake rotor and hub
Last night I looked at an SC from Washington state that had a large amount of rust (IMO) on the brake rotors and hubs. I'm not used to seeing this because my '79SC is a CA car and does not have much rust at all, if any. Does rust on the rotor and hub something to avoid and be concerned about? I'm checking out this car for my brother and want to make sure I give him good advice before he spends any money on a PPI.

My NARP 944 sat on blocks with no wheels & tires for over a year before I bought it to turn it into a race car. The rotors were solid rust. Go drive the car, and use the brakes a bit, and the rotors will soon be shiney again. I still haven't changed the rotors. I'll need to before next year, though.
Cars at new car dealerships have rusty rotors if they've been sitting for a while. Well, at least around Seattle, they do. |

All steel rotors will rust. It's normal. You could either hit them with some emory cloth or drive carfully and brake a tad. That'll get the rust off.

check the brake fluid to see if its dirty (ie rusty), during the ppi ask that they pull the grease caps to look for wheel bearing damage.
