2.7 engine
I'm thinking about buying a 911S with a 2.7 eng. What things other than chain tensioners, head studs and valve guides should I keep an eye out for? I would definitely have a certified Porsche mechanic do an inspection but want to know what to expect before I get in too deep. The car has 100000 miles on it and seems to be good shape overall but wont pass a smog inspection. I live in Canada and we dont have to have emmisions testing done if the car is 20 years or older. How much can I expect to spend if I rebuild the engine on my own and how long before having to do it again? Thanks Mike.

You mentioned the key points already. Check to make sure it has the 11 blade fan. then sit back and enjoy the incredible revs versus the later models.
Side note. 2.7s in climates such as yours probably don't have many head stud pulling problems because of the cooler overall weather. The engine in my 914 is a 2.7 from here in wisconsin. It has original 75,000 miles on it. I just recently had it completly apart to put new rings, bearings etc in it. I choose to not put time serts in because it really didn't need them everything was great but I maybe a lone example. Just don't be to afraid Ben 77 911 3.0 75 914-6 2.7 |
