Last walkaround - 964 in El Cajon

Ok . . . don't laugh. I need someone to do a walk around and test drive of a C2 Cab prior to having a PPI.

I also need suggestions as to where to have the PPI done.

We have narrowed the search to 2 cars, thanks to a very thorough look see by CKrause in Palo Alto.

Thanks in advance.

You mean El Cajon (in San Diego)? A bit far for me, and most of the PPI shops I know of are a fair drive from there.

marcesq 07-22-2003 07:42 PM

Sorry . . . . its El Cajon in San Diego.

Thanks for catching that.

Spelling was never my strong suit.

DonNewton 07-22-2003 11:43 PM

Hmm, Marc, now that I'm here in San Diego, I could probably give the car the once over. Talk to Tony Kelly, he'll know who I am.

A good place to try in San Diego would be Dieters in Downtown. I do not know if they do PPI but every Porsche owners knows of them in San Diego. And yes I go to them if I can't do the work myself. There is also AJUSA but I don't know if they do work on cars, and Performance Porsche. Where is the car located in El Cajon. I live about 7-10 miles away from El Cajon.

Don:

I don't have to talk with TK . . . . I know you, and would be most greatful if you could take a peak at the car and give it a test drive.

We really miss your talents back here at Potomac . . . hope things are going well for you.

Please send a number where you can be reached to marcesq@att.net.

Thanks again Don.

David: Thanks for infor on the shop and thanks for the offer to look at the car. If Don can't do it, I'll PM you.

Thanks to all.

Marc, sent you an e-mail at your listed address.

I wouldn't recommend AJUSA. Dieter's has a good rep, as does Black Forest in Kearney Mesa. Both are at least a 30 minute drive (more with traffic) from El Cajon.

marcesq 07-23-2003 07:21 AM

Thanks for all of the good tips.

Don has been gracious enough to help me out.

Stay tuned . . . .

marcesq 08-01-2003 11:59 AM

HUGE THANKS TO DON (Our CI) who did our walk around and also taught the owner what a 964 is capable of . . . . both in starting and stopping ;).

Couldn't have done it without you.

Marc

So Marc, is this one Kevin should buy?

DonNewton 08-01-2003 12:22 PM

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm sure Kevin is going to love this car. When does he take possession?

Jim Richards 08-01-2003 12:26 PM

Marc, I'll come over and the two of us should talk Kevin into a SD-->VA road trip. What'dya think? :D

Don, how's the surfing? Lucky guy!

Oh my, this is gonna spruce up your neighborhood, Marc. Now you two can host DIY block parties.

marcesq 08-01-2003 12:45 PM

Car is being picked up on Monday, should be here 10 to 14 days later.

The best part is that Kevin will be on vacation when the car arrives so guess who gets to receive same

Rick Lee 08-01-2003 12:46 PM

Marc, can we swap the 3.6 for your 3.2 before he gets home?

marcesq 08-02-2003 11:51 AM

Not now that you have let the cat (or 3.6) out of the bag . . . . Kevin is a stelth reader of PP and already asked about it this morning.

KevinLe 08-02-2003 07:13 PM

Well, my cover is blown. Yes indeed, I had been a stealth reader for a year. Just signed up with PP last nite, so now I can join this dynamic forum.

First I would like to thanks Marc, my neighbor, who embeded a bug in my brain for a must have a P in my life, otherwise I will have a mid-life crisis (just my feeling, Marc did not say that). He also was on a quest to find me one for almost a year now, until recently ....

I would like to thanks Don Newton (CI) and Chuck Krause to test and check out the last two choices for me. Chuck checked out a black 964 Cab in Palo Alto and as you know I bought the one in EL Cajon, a 964 Cab with white exterior. Please let me know when I can return a favor.

For the rest of the gang that used to hang out at Marc's garage, Doug, Richard, Jim , Tony, ... to name a few, and many others that I met in the past year, thanks for the warm welcome even back then (eventhough I did not have a P car) and for many times taught me a think or two about Porsche car.

Last but not least, I definitely learned first hand from Richard that Murphy's law does exit ... ;)

Below is the pic of the P soon to be in Herndon, for those of you did not see it yet.

P.S. Richard, it is a damn good idea to swap my 3.6 with Marc's 3.2, because I know for sure that his is already rebuilt. Mine has an oil leak like an old U-boat and my wife hates oil spots on our garage floor. I hope that you will convince Marc to do it before I get back from vacation :)

Looks great Kevin. Can't wait to see it in person. So when are you scheduling your first engine drop? You're conveniently located right across Marc's Garage & Grille so don't be shy! ;)

Doug E 08-02-2003 07:34 PM

Kevin - welcome to the board (finally)! Now we can no longer refer to you as a lurker... Not sure if you got the e-mail I sent you the other night but congrats on the purchase and I look forward to seeing your car in person.

BTW, I don't think you have to worry about Richard swapping your motor as it sounds like he still has plenty of projects between his two cars :)
