Can't locate a clunk...

I have a wierd clunk from the vicinity of the passenger rear seat. The clunk is very unpredicatable and intermittent. The sound is like a ballpeen hammer making an occassional single tap against the firewall or right rear wheel well. If I didn't know better, I would think I have a golf ball rolling around somewhere back there which hits a sheetmetal barrier.
I will check the sway bar mounts and tranny clearance but I have this feeling I'm gogin to find a golf ball somewhere.
Let me know if you have any ideas. And thanks.

My bet is the sway bar mount, but do remember that the trans can bang on items when you have bad mounts.

Best of luck,
John

I chased a clunk around for weeks that might have been more of a "dull thud" than a "golf ball hitting sheet metal" sound, but mine ended up being my rear shock. I removed it (a red Koni) and it took little or no effort to compress it. Got it replaced (love that lifetime warranty stuff) and the clunk went away.

Something to check as a last resort.

wait, what is this about lifetime warranty on konis?

I have konis on mine, and the window sticker indicates that the car came with them, and I have been pondering replacement.
