Rebuild or swap 915 Trans ????

I have a 1975 body with a 3.2 engine & 915 transmission. My transmission is starting to grind 1-2 and down shifting 5-4. Almost forgot very very very hard to put it in 1st. What is the difference between the different year 915 transmission? How do I know what year trans I got? should I rebuild or get a used 80-86 915 transmission? Can I bolt on a 80-86, if I got a 75 trans? And what parts to i need? Your input will be greatly appreciated..

Rebuilding is not that difficult. The 915 is similar to the 901 and I have a rebuild article on my website for the 901.

Definitely you'll need sychro's. The sooner you replace the synchro's the less damage to the sliders and the dogteeth. You'll need a gasket set. Dogteeth removing tool. Alignment tool for the gear stack. Cost if you do it: $80 for the special tools and the cost of the parts (Synchro's are running 60 each these days, dogteeth about $100 and sliders vary on which one).

Focus on the gear stack rebuilding portion, and plan on rebuilding the tranny out of the car. The 914, allows you to yank the gear stack without removing the case from the car.
