Valve Stem?
Looked at the P-CAR this AM and saw front drive side tire flat. My first flat in the P-CAR. At least it was in the garage. Anyway, I filled the tire and it held it's pressure. However, as I was putting on the valve step cap I noticed air coming out if I bent it. I have never had a valve stem go bad before - on any car. Do they or is this some other issue? Thanks for the input!

The little internal mechanism in your valve stem has come loose.
You can tighten it. I have a special little tool that you just stick into the valve stem and turn to tighten. You may be able to do it somehow without the tool, or just go to any tire shop and they'll tighten it for you in 5 seconds. |

BTW, the valve stem caps that have the little fork on the top are the tightening tool. |

Zeke is right - I missed the part about it only leaking when you bend it.
I think you should replace the valve stem. It may have a cut or other defect on it. It's an easy job for a tire shop. |

Having a valve stem fail like this isn't that uncommon as the factory made an upgrade just for it.
Check out this thread > http://forums.pelicanparts.com/show...?threadid=96192 I very highly recommend ditching the rubber valve stems on every car you own. I have had rubber valve stems fail on two cars and a truck. I have never heard of a steel valve stem failing. Wayne |

Any rubber product will deteriorate w/ age, tires, valve stems, gaskets, anything. They get hard and brittle, this is why older tires even w/ good tread life often feel terrible and are noisy. New valve stems should be installed whenever new tires are installed.
While I also like the short metal stems, they also have rubber gaskets which will fail w/ age. These should also be refreshed when the tires are changed or at least every 5yrs or so. Don’t forget to use good caps w/ proper seals. The cheap plastic ones on most cars are useless in this regard.
