Plug Change-Can't get wires to slip on plugs HELP!

Plug changes are supposed to be easy. No problem getting the plugs out and the new ones in. I can't get the plug wire to snap on to the plug. It feels like it is hitting something and won't go all the way on.

any suggestions or help?

Dave,

Did the plugs come with the screw on tip removed? I've had this happen before and missed putting the tips on. I'm assuming you have the same wires and bought the right plugs.

If it's only happening on one plug (the first one and only one you tried so far?) then check for a rubber insert from the plug socket staying behind on the plug. A small flashlight and an inspection mirror is handy for such checking. Jim

David - the tip is on. They are NGK's.
Jim- No...the rubber isn't there. This happened on the first plug I removed and I'm going one at a time. I started with CYL #1 just to make sure it would be fairly easy to get at. I took the plug out again and the wire goes on with no problem when it is in my hand.

It feels like it is hitting something on the wall and won't go on.

Dave,

You might be going in at a bad angle. Try a little different approach with the plug wire. One at a time is good, but make sure you don't mix the plug wires. I have done this before and the motor does not run as well ;-)

I am such an idiot...Jim, you were right. The rubber thing was on the plug. Took it off and the wire went on like silk.

Thanks for the hint...it saved my sanity.

Re-bond the rubber grommet to your metal socket. I used a silicon based permanent gasket.
