3.2 Turbo
I have a 1984 911 3.2 Carrera. I would like to turn it into a turbo at a low psi (about 5-7). However, there are many options on how to achieve my goal.
Have: Factory Manuals $3200 Options: 1.) Go Protomotive Stage I Install ($8500) and take out a $5000 loan from my bank, 2.) Design a turbo setup at <$5000. 3.) Try to work a deal with Protomotive to get the price lowered. Anyone have any experience with negotiating with Protomotive? Do they offer a lower-power kit (compared to Stage I)? Would a self-designed turbo kit be feasible/safe at under $5000? I tend to learn quickly, and am about to purchase many books on forced induction methods. Thank you, my fellow Pelicanheads, for any help! |

Juan
If Juan Ruiz is here can you give me the specs on your car? Does anyone know where his car page went? Or his email?

I see a lot of good 930 turbo stuff on e-bay all the time.
I frequently see the late model headers and turbo plumbing on there for only a few hundred bucks after people upgrade to aftermarket headers. Get that and a nice K27 and you will have a big chunk of what you need. Intercooling and engine management will be the part that will probably be the biggest drain on the budget. |

pboy16,
do a search here on this forum for a man from downunder called "WYDRYD". He went the Protomotive route on a 3.2. I think he ended up agreeing that there is no such thing as cheap horsespower.

I dont sell the turbo kits,They are sold by one of my tuners I have them in my web site as a "Thank you " for all the good things that he has done for me,that particular kit I think is like $4800 with intercooler ( I Think not 100%sure) . If you do a search you can find a ton of inf as I started the hp quest sometime back. Protomotive was the GRANDFATHER of my project and since I did my project I think prices have change a lot as they used to (they may still do) theres a turbo kit that they call the "economical or on the side kit" which was $4999 install, but I think that price is long gone, that kit produced for ME 276rwhp/320hp at .5 bar of boost, non adjustable, no internal modifications,no intercooler my compression was 9.5.1, I put over 5000 hard miles on her never one single problem, indeed a nice little package that could please a lot of people,it was nice for me until my doctor told me that I suffer from a hp disease Would a self-designed turbo kit be feasible/safe at under $5000? Mike the Mechanic did his own he can help you in that dept. Anyone have any experience with negotiating with Protomotive? protomotive is one of the biggest high hp porsche tuners in USA they will work with you but on the negotiating thing no a chance as many other porsche tuners as they are in business to make money not to do any of us any favors. If you need any help feel free to ask Im not a turbo guru but I be more than happy to share my quest.

Thank you Juan. Do you have any estimated numbers on your friend's kit?
