Thanks, but what makes it good stuff? Was this a special color or paint? Thanks again.

I'm a huge fan of that code/color, that's all. There was some debate about it being a standard color in '72 and some other early years. I found several examples, including one of my own cars, that were coded 936, though all the documentation I have studied shows that it was not an available color until the bumper-car era. My current theory, due to the number of '72s I have seen with #936, is that the documentation is wrong.
Is your car that silver? Do you know if the paint is original? I'd love to see some pics.

That's 936 all right. I Looooove that color. Looks great on that car with those wheels, too (Rufs?).

To dig-up an old thread, I have this paint code on my 1972 911T, looking to match colors. Need to just spray paint the trunk area. Any suggestions?

key in 1980 , Porsche, 911 Order a can of L936. Metallic Silver. Never heard of it being a VW color. It was original on a few longhoods. Had a friend with a 73.5 targa with 936 that was original. BTW, 936 is the paint code, 9 is the paint manufacturer (glasurit, I think), and 3 is the plant where the car was painted |

Bringing this thread back to life. I just looked at a 1972 911 T with a 936 door jam paint code. Guess what? The 911 ST and Spyder have a new stablemate.

After assuming my 74 was some sort of brown, I stripped the multiple colors (some hideous!) off the door jamb tag and low and behold it's 936-9 3. Silver?!
Any more pics of this color? Is / was it rare on a '74 Targa? Thanks!

Reviving this thread myself. You guts aren't alone, I have a 72T with the 936 paint code as well. I believe the car was resprayed when they did the rust work though.

According to this site: Services - Reference Center - Color Charts - 911 (1965-1973) - CPR Classic This is a "1965-1973 Special paint color (Metallic)" used in 1973 I am respraying my car now, and I am exited to see how it will look on my car ![]()

936-9-3
Hello, I am a late arrival to this thread. I never knew what color my car was originally until yesterday, I saw a video and the guy opened the door and viola there is the paint code. I guess you learn something new everyday! So mine is 936-9-3, it was a mid year 1972 911t MFI with moon roof (California car). It was white when I bought it in 1983 and I painted it red in the late 80s.
I am so glad I finally joined this forum, I have been reading thru these threads for not just years but decades getting tips and help. |
