Heater woes

Morning all.

Simple question - how do I actually turn the heat OFF in the car? It seems that no matter what I do, there is always some 'very' hot air coming through the vents. The manual doesnt seem to have the proper control adjustment for this.

Thanks.

Check the underbody valves. This shot shows where they are, just follow the orange hose from the heat output of the header heater box to the body. Your exhaust is not configured like this but the body valve is the same. Just forward of the axles the valve can be seen to be in the heat off position directing hot air back under the car.

If you have manual heat controls, the two red levers between the seats are attached to wire cables that open or close the vents that Bill is talking about. When the levers are down all the way, the vents just after the heat exchangers are open, allowing the heated air to vent underneath the car. They are easy to find, like he says just follow the hose from the heat exchangers. The vents are round, shaped like the universal symbol for radioactivity. Adjusting the cables that control these vents should fix your problem. If you have automatic heat, it could be a servo problem which I can't help with. Do a search; there have been a bunch of threads on this problem.

If you have automatic heat, pull the plastic box off between the front seat (four hex bolts and pull the knob off and inspect to see if the lever that is attached to the servo is stuck or jammed. My heat didn't work and it turned out the servo lever had popped off the ball.
