gemballa rockers installed!
Got my Gemballa rockers painted and installed this weekend. After installing f/g front and rear bumpers, I thought the Carrera rockers looked "off" w/ the black rubber strip. I didn't want to go w/ C2 rockers, so these were the perfect solution!

Wow, that is one sexy ride, looks awesome Colby. It's perfect, only thing left to do is have those headlight rings painted the same color as the car. Man, I am in awe of how good that thing looks, must be the color or something.
On a side note, what size wheels are those and where did you get them from?

I'm no fan of the Gemballa look, as a rule...
...but damn, that looks good! (I guess it's the massive rear flare intakes and wedding-cake wings that make most of the completely Gemballa-ized cars tough for me to stomach.)

Looks great but I hope you never have to remove your rear torsion bar in the future.

I just finished redoing the entire suspension (new shocks, bushings, torsion bars, sway bars, etc) and had it aligned/corner-balanced, so I shouldn't need to get in there anytime soon. But if I did, it's not too hard to get them off. They are held on w/ 3M doublesided tape on the top, then a screw in the f/r fender lip.
I was wondering what I should do about the headlight rings. One side of me liked them matching the polished aluminum on my front cooler grille and wheels. The other side said I should paint them to match the rest of the car. Colby |

I forget the brand of the wheels, but they are sold by Tweeks and most other vendors. New they are like $600 each; I got all four off Ebay (brand new) for $1100. They are 3 piece turbo twist style. 17x8 front, 17x9.5 rear. 225/45/17 front, 245/40/17 rear (Kumho tires. They are nice, but a pain to maintain as the aluminum outer pieces are not clearcoated, so I am constantly buffing them out (and salt or water gets on them and they start to corrode).

that looks great Colby--I like the chrome trim rings. Your updates have really transformed the car nicely. what kind of suspension setup did you do? time for the 3.6 or turbo swap now?!

Suspension mods include 21/27 torsion bars, 21mm Weltmeister sway bars, poly bushings, Bilstein sport shocks on all 4 corners, turbo tie rods, plus all diet my Porsche went on really helped.
I also have SSI's w/ a crossflow Flowmaster (sounds incredible) and a cone air filter. As far as serious engine mods go, that will have to wait. This car, believe it or not, has over 250k miles on it, original paint, tranny, and engine! All three are beginning to show their age though. The paint has several little scratches and door dings, the tranny synchros are getting pretty awnry, and the valve guides are leaking in several cylinders. So the next step will probably be a rebuild (which I'm sure I'll go hi-po while I'm in there). I have my eyes on a SC setup someone from this board may be selling. If he sells it to me, I may throw that on, then rebuild the motor w/ forced induction in mind. Colby |

Wow that looks great. I've been considering a bumper update and have not been able to decide on which bumpers.
I really like what you have done. I am normally a fan of paint matched trim rings but the unpainted look good on your car. They add just the right amount of accent to complement the wheels. Also works with the clear lenses. Sweet looking car. Scott

Colby your car looks great. I just ordered a very similar front IROC bumper from Peter at Rennspeed, to go on my silver '75. I did it for the cooler opening, but I'm really coming around to the style now. Your car gives me an idea of how the silver will look. I can't wait!!!

Yeah, I too put function before style (not to say nothing was done in the name of style). I have a Mocal oil cooler behind the grille in the front bumper (the grille is actually an early 911 rear engine lid), the cooling brake ducts are functional, and the weight savings is substantial and very noticeable.
I plan to cut cooling brake ducts for the rears in the recessed portion of the Gemballa rockers. Colby |

One option on the headlight rings is to leave them chrome, but also get a set of the painted ones that snap over the chrome ones. That way you can switch.

Hey Colby,
Are you telling me that the only thing holding the rockers on is 3M tape along the top and a screw at each end? Curious, Steve |

Correct. I could screw through the front of it, but that would look way tacky. 3M tape is strong stuff and the screws hold the ends in well. Back in the day, I put several "ground effect" kits on using 3M and rivets or screws. They held fine. The rockers are quite light so I don't think it'll be a problem. I'm keeping an eye on it though. I put over 300 miles on it this weekend and so far no problems. I called Einmalig, who sells the complete kit, and they said to screw it in place. Heck no, that would look like crap!
