What activates the P-brake light?

The "brake" light on my dash was staying lit so I removed the center console to check for a loose connection or whatever and I found no micro-switch/contacts switch in there. So today it started working correctly and I am wondering what actually triggers this light? There has to be a switch somewhere right?

Good question. I have the same problem of the light always on. It started after sitting last winter. I too have traced the wire but haven't been able to find the source of the problem.

Parking Brake Light

Try jiggling the p-brake handle, or make sure it is completely
down...the light in the dash is triggered if the p brake is even
one click up.

On my '78, there is a switch near the handbrake.

Also, on my '78, I think the parking brake light is tied into one of the oil pressure switches! If your 77 is the same, your light may be trying to tell you there is a problem with the switch (the $5 one on the top of the engine behind the CIS meter).

Does this mean your oil pressure light is hooked up to your brake fluid reservoir?

My bootleg PET program shows the low brake fluid level indicator parts available for the 77 and the 78SC. Don't know if they came with them though. Maybe just a low fluid situation in both cases above?

Cheers,
Bob

Try unplugging the switch on the master cylinder located under the car by the steering rack. It has either 1 wire or 2. By dissconecting and reconnecting the wire this seems to reset itself. Good Luck!

The parking brake light is switched from a switch near the back of the parking brake lever, or if there is a pressure differential between the two brake circuits. The switch for the differential pressure is on the master cylinder.

No, but the "BRAKE" warning light is hooked up to the oil pressure sender!

Kind of a weird thing. You can see this in the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual (911SC, 1981 models, diagram V).
