96 or 99 help!!

i own a clean 87 targa, was going to sell it but nobody wants to buy it, and since my job transfer is not going to go thru, i need some advice on deciding. i say a 993 c4s on ebay listed by schmitt,i read here somewhere someone has already experienced buying from them. they are willing to take my targa for 17k and send me the c4s, i have an option to go with a c4s or a 99 cab with aero package. i like the 96 993 c4s and the year but the 99 993 cab also looks good. price wise they are not too far away from each other.
this is driving me nuts, i have read a lot of post from different people here with diffrent opinions and so hopefully i can get some good and bad feedbacks about these years and makes as well as the dealership.
btw if anyone out there lives close to schmitt and wants to check out the car for me i would really appreciate it.

you don't want to buy a car from schmitt, they've screwed over too many people on this board and rennlist. there's plenty of clean 993s out there, don't hesitate to pass up on one that doesn't exactly meet your needs.

They'll tell you any number they think you want to hear as a trade value on your car. Just don't expect it when you actaully go to make the deal. They'll have something they dont like about your car that will knock a few grand off the price. They work under the theory that once you ship them the car they can jerk yaa around since they already have the car and you're pumped for the new one. Read these boards and read the rennlist boards they do it regularlly. At 17k your targa is going at retail price. Think about it... a dealership buys at wholesale and sells at retail. They're not in the business of paying retail. I too own an 87 targa and I know at 17K thats getting full retail price these days.
