993 non turbo brakes on 911sc
i recently bought a set of "944 turbo front calipers" to use on the rear of my 911. I paid a descent price for 944t calipers, but to my surprise the guy actually sold me a set of calipers from a 993. I think they are the fronts, but only have Brembo part numbers on them, so I can't cross reference them. These numbers are 20.4585.00 on one side of caliper and 20.4584.00 on the other half.
At the same time I bought the above calipers, I bought a set of 993 fronts from another guy and I was planning on running them on the front. Can these be used as rears, with a brake bias adjustment? Will it work with 930 Rear Rotors. Is this what is used on the Big Red conversion for the rears? If they match up better with Big Red Fronts then I will sell a pair of these and buy big reds for the front. Thanks for your help, Doug |

This is what a set of 993 f/r calipers looks like
The ones on the left are the rears which will also appear the same as a 994/964 f/r caliper. You do not want to use ant front calipers on the back unless you have some ungodly huge front caliper pistons The 993 rear pistons are 34/30 the 944/964 f are 40/36 and the 944/964 rear are 30/28 you can measure them easily w/ the caliper off the car( be sure to measure the entire piston not the smaller nubs that hold the antisqueel devices) First determine what they are, then you can determine applicability.

Bill,
They look the like ones on the right (the 993 fronts) and they are radial mounts. I dont have access to a metric set calipers. I did measure the pistons with a 10th inch ruler and multiplied by 25.4 and got 35.56/30.48. These look like the ones that are sold in the big red kits for the rear. I do want good brakes, but I will be honest, I want the look more than anything else. I drive spirited occasionally and plan to do some DE events, but no full out racing. At this point I have 4-993 front calipers, 2-930 rear rotors and 2-993 front rotors. I was going to machine the front hubs to accept the 993 rotors and buy an adapter for the caliper. Doug |

The 993 fronts are 44/36 (you probably measured the antisqueel nubs, it's an easy mistake to make)
If you machine the 911 hubs to accept the 993 1 piece front rotors , be very carefull. The 911 hubs are not overly strong to begin w/. In the back the '78 on 930 rotors are a good choice. With them you want either 965 34/30 rears(993 34/30 can be made to work but are not ideal) or If you want a bit more(but still very acceptible) front bias use some 930 rears. Either will need machining to bolt to the 911 trailing arm. The fronts will need at least 8x16 wheels w/ caliper spoke clearance or spacers(which I don't like)

By the way how much might you want for the useless extra set of 993 fronts?
