Looking for some kind of front valance
 

I need to accommodate an oil cooler in the front of the 911 narrowbody. I haven't seen much out there, and was hoping someone can turn me on to a used part or an idea for something I haven't seen. I don't want it to look to radical...I prefer a stealth approach.

I want to get a front valence too and am seriously looking at the Ruf lower piece with fog light and center oil-cooler opening. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find it anywhere at a reasonable price (Weissach wants $1200 for it), any leads?

Another Pelicanite wanted the same thing (more room, stock looks), so he bought a second stock valance, did a little creative cutting and welding and ended up with a completely stock looking valance complete with front lip spoiler with enough room for a front cooler.

Just a thought, otherwise the Ruf style is the most inconspicuous. Call MAShaw, they have parts that they don't advertise on their site or in their ads. They may have something for you.

I jumped on it real quick.. it's not even installed yet.. it's a really nice custom low key valence. kinda like you have to know what your looking at style

I'm still waiting for a front shield. mine is already removed .. I did the roof lining, and did the 3M Windo-Weld, 3M08633, like you said on the rear window after install.. so the valence repair and paint may have to wait till next season.. I haven't installed the new cams yet either.........Ron

Those look like Carrera fog lights. Pretty much all of the valances that are setup for fogs are set up for Carrera fogs.

I kinda wanted to stay away from fiberglass because there are a couple of driveways that might murder the valence. I was also looking at the long Mocal oil cooler because of the dimensions. I also like the idea of going custom like Ron is, because I like to spend a rediculus amount of time on something instead of just going out and buying it. Doh

That spoiler you want is not the Ruf one. The Ruf "Yellowbird" bumper replaces your stock one. What you are looking at is the 930 FSR spoiler which runs $349 at Vertex Auto. They have the Ruf kit for $1175 front and rear.

One thing to think about - if you ever intend to compete in your car then a fender mounted cooler is a much safer idea. The front bumper is always the first to go. I just pulled a (busted) setrab cooler out of the nose of my RS replica and replaced it with a 3.2 cooler in the right hand front guard for this reason. OTOH - in the nose is fine for a street only car.

Here's a closeup of my old custom valence that Ron now has.

I got my Ruf style from Brad at BW Motorsports. My paint guy said it's the best glass work he's seen in a long time. The fit was perfect. I made the grilles out of a used decklid grill that I got on eBay.


Here's a quick description from another thread:

The idea was to make something that an oil cooler would fit behind. I got two used valences, one with fog light holes, one without and cut 'em up to make a custom valence.

I moved the Carrera valence forward to the edge of the bumper and welded on longer ends from the older part. Then cut a hole for the cooler and mounted BSR ducts (from I/O Port) behind the fog light openings.

I also had to piece together a longer rubber lip spoiler from two used ones.

It wasn't a hard job, just took a while since I was making it up as I went along.

This way, I was able to retain as stock a look as possible and have the room for the cooler (just barely enough).

If all you want is brake ducts, just get the used Carrera piece and use the BSR ducts. I put a double duct on the passenger side to get a bit more air to the fender oil cooler. Not much room in there, so you'll have to trim the inboard duct and put the brake hose on the outboard one.

Dean, yep, it's fiberglass....and Carrera fogs. I have toyed with the idea of removing the fogs and going with brake cooling ducts. I've got some 3/4 view shots I can post later.

Brad, sweet, which oil cooler did you go with? Who did you get the spoiler from?
Does anything need to be done to the oil pump considering the extra distance?

Bob, the valance is from betterbodiesmotorsport.com. I went with a Setrab (aka Mocal) cooler and mounted it to a bracket, which is bolted to the underside of the actual bumper. AFAIK, nothing additional for the oil pump. The only modification I made was to remove the studs from the valance that the mesh grill attached to for clearance. The mesh and the cooler have become *one* via the way I mounted it.
