mod\backdating?
In my last post, Nostatic had mentioned modding\backdating an sc. What is this? Can an sc be made to look like an early 911. If so how hard and how costly is it. If I could do this I would be able to buy a 911 with a 3.0 and still keep the early style that I like so much. That seems much easier than buying an early 911 and swapping a 3.0, 3.2, 3.6. Thanks for your input.

It's very possible and I think a great idea if you want the looks of an early with the amenities of a later car. Do a search and you'l find a bunch of info on it.

By the time you buy the parts, install and paint the car is it really that much cheaper, I have toyed with the idea of doing the same thing myself.

talk to TRE. They are experts on this, and I believe have all of the parts to make it happen. Basically, you can do it fairly cheaply using fiberglass parts, or expensive by sourcing original fenders, etc.

I'm doing the backdate thing, but it took me months to track down good used parts (fenders, hood and turnsignals). Bumpers (and hood too) can be bought cheaper than the steel fenders and hood together! It took me over 9 months to find an acceptable pair of steel fenders, but I did find them, on E-bay!!!
In the Midwest, there isn't much hope for a good used pair of fenders. Nostatic is right, the f-glass fenders are easier to get, but I have been warned that f-glass fenders will never look as good as steel fenders. Might be good for a track car, but for a black street car as I have planned, any poor glass work will show. It's possible if you are patient. It can get expensive if you are not patient. And if you don't have a limited budget, hell get the $1000+ fenders from Tweeks and go for it! Af far as just buy an early car..we'll you'll get too many opinions. |

I'm sure it was probably mentioned in the previous posts, but Autofarm in the UK produce an SC backdate - big $$$ but a nice looking conversion.
