Shortshift kit question

We have 911 SC -79 and factory shortshift kit waiting to be installed. I wonder if this kit is in some way integrated with 915 gearbox or can we use it even if we install 930 transmission (four gears only) in SC?

Thanx.

The Factory Short Shift will work fine in the 930 tranny

beepbeep,

The 930 shifter mechanism has a much longer output displacement - i.e. the linear motion being delivered back to the transmission.
A 915 shifter will not have enough shift rod travel to select gears in a 930.
If your situation were reversed, the 930 shifter would offer a very short shift for the 915....
The base casting is shared between 915 and 930, as are some of the other hardware - but you would require discreet 930 lever and pivot box components to use with the 930 transmission.

Regards

Hayden

Hayden:

I see that you have expirience in Porsche transmissions, i have just browsed www.wevo.com so I really respect your opinion.

So my next question is: what do you recomend in our situation? Should we sell SC shortshift kit and buy 930 one?

This is what we got:

I'm not activly working with shifting mechanism in this project, it's Mattias who does it but i'm doing reality checks on certain pieces now and then.

beepbeep,

The parts you have are a good short shift for the 915, nothing further required.

If you install the 930 transmission you would need the following parts to build a stock 930 shifter - by replacing the corresponding 915 components.

This would not be a shorter throw unit as you have with the 915 parts

Buffer plate 930 424 147 00
Top plate 930 424 165 01
Pivot box 930 424 071 00
Lever 930 424 017 04
Retaining clip N 012 4391

The rest of the parts from the 915 assembly can be re-used.

Regards

Hayden

Thank you very much Hayden.

I really appreciate this kind of spot-on knowledge found on Pelican.

And yes, we are going to use 930 gearbox (being beefier and all) so i gues we'll have to purchase those parts.

Thanx again.

Or just find a used 930 shift assembly, should be a hell of a lot cheaper. Other than plastic bushing and ball cup, they don't really wear out.

Beep beep,
I have some of the guts from a turbo shifter. PM me to discuss. The shifter housing is the same.

Here's a grouping of 911/930 shift levers.

1. Factory
2. Factory Short Shifter
3. WM short shifter
4. Target short shifter
5. 930 factory shifter

On the 930 shift lever, you can see the large movement needed (distance from pivot point to ball end) to change gears. It'd be interesting to see the effect of this shifter in a 915 gearbox.

Wow...is that lever for a tractor or what? 930 short shifter must be even longer than that
