15k...most bang for your buck

Ok, you have $15,000. What is the fastest, wildest Porsche you can buy for seat of the pants excitment and fun. The 15 large is what you have total (you can't buy a 911s and than go for mods-unless the total ticket is less than 15k). I often wonder if I sell my SC what is out their that might be a little crazier. Thoughts?????

Purchase a 78 SC for 8K and do the following. Install A V8? Or you could remove the CIS system and install a blower. Or you could modify the existing engine for possibly more power. A Turbo System would be cost prohibitive.

An early car with 3.0 with SSIs, or with 3.2?

I'd look for a mid 70's 911 that has been converted to a 3.2 with PMO's (or similar). Should be possible in your price range.

You could buy my 914/6 with its 3.2 engine, short geared tranny, coil over susp , etc...

Best bang for 15K is to buy some guy's 30K hot rod project just after his wife has hit him with divorce papers.

And I'd agree that a heavily modified (read: big 6 motor) 914 is probably going to offer the most performance for the least money. 911's collectible status drives their prices up too high to compete with the 914.

There is (was) a 914 with a V8 renegade conversion on eBay recently. That would be about the fastest you could do for $15K I suspect...

I've heard of significant others that are jealous of the attention the cars get...but divorces papers....uh oh. Geez and I'm not even married yet LOL.

As someone that is working on a project I'd suggest you buy someone else's completed project. Much cheaper that way.
Though there is something to be said about building the car yourself!

The 914 with the conversion is the way to go if you want to go nuts. A 914 with a V8 is a thrilling way to go. Talk about "set you back in the seat". Hold on as you go 200mph in a street legal go-cart. Now that's fun!

My car was $16K and was/is the best $16K I have ever spent- it is also the best seat of pants ride ever!.
PO put $35-40 into the car and had to bail out in a hurry- right time and place!
Good luck
Ben

944 turbo. They are fairly quick but not as much fun to drive as a 911. IMO

Actually Bill, I think she spells it "Portia", but I'll bet for $10K she'd change her name. The other $5K would go to crack, alcohol, and penicillin I think...a kind of cozmik triple crown.

Porsches aside, unless you're talking about the aforementioned stripper Portia, the best bang for your $15K would be about 1500 Viagara tablets. T.T. Boy and Mr. North will have nothing on you for at least four years.

The cheapest car you will ever own is the one already in your driveway.

The best bang-for-buck seat-of-the-pants will be suspension improvements. Everyone is fixated with the engine, but a fast turn is way more exciting than anything that happens in straight line.

When the discussion turns to performance improvements, invariably the engine is the first thing that comes up. And it's the last thing that needs improvement.

1973 911t targa, engine upgraded to 2,7 litre RS 10.000 miles ago, complete transmission overhaul at the same time. Total mileage 125.000. Recent bare metal respray, no rust. New shocks, tie rods, seals, tires, carpets, targa top, refurbished wheels. Some (comparatively minor) things still to be sorted (ball joints, seats, two scratches on the front hood). PO had about 30.000 in the car, I paid half that.
