Thanks Bell, the car is located in Massillon. He says the motor is a 2.7L that has been rebuilt, I am really trying to stay away of the 2.7L becuase of it's apparent problems. However, if this motor has had the updated studs, case, then the deal might still be attractive. I appreciate you providing me the information so quickly.

I would recommend a place on the West side of Cleveland (Rocky River actually) that is great - Autobahn Extremist. The guys runs a great shop who will work with you for whatever you need. I've used him for years and is great for guys like me who can do a little. Another Pelicanite (North Coast Cab) uses him regularly as well.

massollin is about 20 minutes from cascade..........40minutes to baker.......1hour from stoddard....1+hours to rocky river.
i can have my roomate "oversee" the ppi with the tech to make sure it's not "just another ppi", they have a couple really good techs at cascade, i'll call him in a little bit to have him check with his tech about their familiararity with the 2.7's.........i should be able to post from work when i get an answer.

Another Option
The largest independent Porsche only shop in Northeast Ohio is Steinels' Autowerks located in Twinsburg. Eric Steinel has an 8-10 bay shop with nearly 15,000 sf of floor space. Many PCA club racers and members of the Northern Ohio Region (Cleveland) and Eastern Buckeye Region (Akron/Canton) use Steinels. Eric and his staff also volunteer their time to head the tech at NOR & EBR drivers' ed events. Local p-car ads often proclaim "maintained by Steinels."
I have used Autobahn Extremist and Steinels. Chris Moore of AE used to work for Steinels. Both are great shops and provide very thourough service, however they are nearly as expensive as a dealer. I live on the east side of town and use Steinels due to proximity for things I cannot do at home. Steinels' numbers are Phone: 330.425.8582 Fax: 330.425.3560 email: steinels@alltel.net No affiliations, you mileage may vary......

I go to Galati's Foreign Car Service in North Olmsted. They've serviced my car since before it was my car, and have always done right by me. It's about an hour and fifteen minutes from Massillon.
johnjr 78 SC Targa P.S.: The number is 440-777-7764. Ask for Matt, Tim or the owner, Mike Galati. |

Par911..
If the Car's in Massillon, you may want to give Leyland Motors a Call - They're in Canton, by the Football HOF. They're going to be your closest bet. (Less than 15 min away, at worst) Their number is (330) 455-8841. Ask for Rick, and tell them Chuck Nilsen Sent ya.. Chuck

Thanks Bell, Vance, Pete, John and Chuck
It is nice to know that there are die hard pelicanites out in Ohio who are nice enough to help a stranger out. I have heard that people from Ohio tend to be friendly; this post just reaffirms that stereotype in my mind. I will first check out steinels and leyland, and I need to check with the seller to see how far he is willing to drive for a PPI. If anyone in the area would like to have a look at the 911, please email me at par911@hotmail.com and I can email you the details. You all have been a big help. PAR911,
Lots of options. Another one for you thoughts, Southwest flies from Baltimore to Cleveland very cheaply. Come take a look, decide if worth investing more time and money, and then choose a shop. I'd be happy to assist in any way, but I'm no 2.7 expert. My opinions on the shops...Stoddards is great, but the farthest and very expensive. Steinel's is very good and can easily handle your task. Autobahn Extremist is great, about an hour, and would easily handle any task you send his way. Fred Baker is a dealer, high priced, and I don't know too many who take their cars there. Galati's is very reputable, Mike races Audi's, but it's not a Porsche shop. I don't know Leyland. JG

Thanks JG. I wasn't even thinking of flying out there, but you are right SW Airlines currently does have some good deals running. I will definitely look into flying out there, assuming I find a reasonably priced ticket. Otherwise, I was thinking of having a PPI done first, or while I'm up there. It's a five hour drive from Rockville, MD to Massilon, OH so the drive wouldn't be that bad. Judging by what everyone is saying Steinels may be my best bet.

Make sure you give Eric a call beforehand. He is usually very busy during race season between PCA, SCCA and now the NASA GTS series. Despite his schedule, he is always curtious, helpful and willing to give advice on how to fix something.
