Sold the Carrera, help me decide what's next
A friend of a friend brought over a friend tonight and she bought my 85 Carerra Targa. I'm OK with it as I never got to emotionally attached to the car, the 915 transimission was just not fun on my stop and go commute.
I feel kind of guilty as she is a first time Porsche buyer, non enthusiast. But, it was easy and a full price deal. I keep trying to find the right car for nice weather commutes (stop and go) and weekend fun car (when not racing). Please help me decide the best car for my needs described above.

If you have to sit through lots of stop and go traffic then I don't think there really is a choice, is there? It's not like the 356 or RS will be even as (in)tolerable as the Carrera was.
I'm fortunate enough to do most of my commuting by rali or bus. If I had to suffer through Seattle-area traffic daily, I'd drive an automatic. Can you get a 993 Tip? That might be a nice compromise.

You may be right, there may not be a good solution short of moving to Montana. I already have an automatic SUV and it's boring.
Although, my wife loves her Boxster, even in the traffic.

I agree with John completely, I think the traffic in Redmond is worse than Seattle. I used to dread jobs in the Eastside espiecally Redmond & Monroe. Besides I think the 993 would fit better with the posh atmosphere, after all isn't Redmond a suburb of Bellevue?

Hey hey now, no eastside jokes! I have to commute to Bellevue through the Microsoft masses.
Old joke: How was Bellevue founded? Old Mr. Nordstrom was out sailing one day on Lake Washington, he set anchor in Meydenbauer Bay, came ashore and hired the first snotty b!tch he came across. (you gotta live here to get it)

Mark,
Go with the 993. Just sold the Plano house, so should be up there at the end of August. You can come by and drive Red when you want a 915 fix. M |

Mark, when I sold my 2nd Porsche (1974 911 w/ 55,000 mi), it went to a snotty smart-a$$ 16 year old kid. His father was buying it for him for his 16th birthday. The kid had the nerve to say to me "I am going to take better care of this car than you did". I almost ripped up the father's check an told them to take a hike, but they met my asking price so I swallowed my pride and completed the deal.

I'd have to vote for the 993 C4S. For my money (which obviously I don't have enough of), no "modern" car beats the looks of the C4S. Stunning.

My dream car is an arena red C4S 993. So, if you buy one I can live vicariously through you. But that I can tell the C4S and C2S do not come with a Tip (or they are very rare) so you will have to stay awake in the commute.

For the price of a 993, buy a RS clone and a second car/truck with an automatic and cold AC.

Since you have the SUV for when the weather is nasty I'd skip the C42 and opt for the C2S...perferably with a Tip, for the stop and go traffic.
