Final appeal - 1981 911SC for sale
I have the opportunity now to buy a 1998 Boxster at a fire sale price. I have been trying to sell my SC for quite some time to finance a Boxster purchase, but I have not had any luck.
It's a 1981 Euro 911SC. The car runs beautifully, has a great paint job, and has a nice interior. I have the full service history on the car from day one, including all the DOT paperwork from when the car was imported. There are over $4,000 worth of new parts that have been installed in the last year. I'm accepting all reasonable offers - I was originally asking $14,000, but in this market, that's not even close. So, if you, your friend, or your friend's friend is interested in a great SC for a street or race car, shoot me an e-mail at stevew@creighton.edu. ![]()

Why get rid of a great running car? It may be hard to get rid of it today, so you give it away. A few months later you decide I made a mistake! then have to pay top dollar to find a replacement.
![]() Keep the SC.

Steve,
Have you priced insurance for a Boxster yet? The reason why I ask is I did before I purchased my CAB. I was shocked they wanted almost 4 time as much to insure a 97 Boxster, than what it cost to insure my SC. It was $1200 a year for the Boxster and I pay $310 a year full coverage for my SC. This may be a non-issue for you, but it's something to consider. |

What does a '98 boxster have on an '81 Euro 911SC?
![]() Not to bash boxsters, but I wouldn't trade my '81 SC for a '98 boxster. .. let alone having to sink another $10k+

At the Big Bear Run III on Sunday, there were some very nice SC's. I could never see a Boxster having the same allure. It looks like a fattened MR2, which I'd take over a Boxster anyway. But that's just my opinion.
Hey, and what was that line from "The Sophranos?" Something like "...a Boxster is a Porsche wearing panties..." I think of that each time I see one. "S" version included. But that's just my 2nd opinion...

That Boxster better be way under $20K in order for it to be a fire-sale...

1. I'd rather not get into the 911 vs. Boxster debate again. My situation is changing, and I will only have one garage space. If I could keep the 911 and get a Boxster, I would, but I don't have the storage space to do it. The 911 is not going to work as an everday car here in Omaha.
2. If anyone wants more pictures, send me an e-mail. I don't have that many pictures available on the web, but I have a zip file I can e-mail people. 3. Right now I'm paying about $600 a year to insure my SC as a second car with State Farm. A Boxster would cost me about $2,000 a year to insure, which is about what I pay for the two cars now. The reason rates are so high is that I am still under 25 for 9 more months. 4. If I can't get a reasonable price for the SC soon, I'll postpone the sell-for-a-Boxster vs. keep-the-SC decision until spring. 5. The Boxster is close to $20,000. It's the color I want (Zenith blue), it's got 20,000 miles, a hardtop, and a great service history. Plus, it's only a few miles away. So, it seems like a good opportunity. 6. Finally, to placate most of you, please don't take this to mean that I have lost respect for the almighty 911. I plan on getting another one some day. However, I've sort of decided that I would like to have either an earlier one or a later one - early 70s MFI 911 or a 964. I've just decided that it might be fun to have a Boxster for the interim few years. Thanks for your responses. Again, if you want more pictures or a more detailed history of the car, send me an e-mail at stevew@creighton.edu.

Considering the contents of my garage, I feel like an expert on this one.
Buy the Boxster; you will love it as a reliable, modern, amazingly efficient car and a ball to drive. It even gets good gas mileage. But you will really miss the 911 and will eventually buy another one. This is especially true if, like most PPBB posters and me, you like to work on your car yourself. You CAN change oil and brakes on a 986. Not much else, though. But the beauty is, not much breaks on them. Enjoy the heck out of it. We'll see you back here someday.
