993 C4 vs 993 C4S neubie needs help?

After a little research I have narrowed it down to the 993 C4 or the C4S (water cooled porche... does not compute) I know the C4S started being produced in 1996, However did they also produce the plain C4 in 96-98? What are the major differences between the C4 and the C4S. The ones I am aware of are the wider turbo rear end and larger brakes. Any other differences? Was the engine the same? I really love the way the S looks but it seems to be ALOT more expensive. I have seen 1995 C4 price out around 35K while the S always seems to be closer to 50K what is the reasoning for this. Is it worth the extra money? Also if the plain C4 was only produced in 1995 should I avoid it due to the lack of varioram and the wiring problems? P.S. my origional budget was around 40K (35 for the car and 5 to fix any problems and for upgrades)... going up to 50K will take more time and limit the amount of mods I can do to the car. This will be my daily driver. Thanks for the inputs.

Come on guys, Porsche has been replacing the engine wiring harness on 95-96 models for free for quite a while. This is not criteria for dismissing a 95. Varioram can be made up for by chipping your car. Or, if that doesn't sound good to you, then go for the 96+ models.

I think the 993C4S has Turbo suspension as well as brakes. It's not just all (sweet) looks. The C4S weighs slightly more than the C4 and will be very lightly slower due the excess baggage and the drag created by the wider body.

However, I'd save for the C4S. I think these are the sexiest looking porsches of the 90's... buy a long way

Don't discount the 95's. As mentioned above, the harness issue is over. The varioram doesn't make that much of a difference (12 hp). I bet you will find 12hp variances in looking at different 993's.

As a daily driver, do you want/need the upgraded brakes? Trust me, the stock brakes are plenty good.

It comes down to styling and what you can afford. If you can't afford the C4S, don't worry about it. You will be just as happy with the C4.

Engines for C4 and C4S are the same for '96 up.

C4S not available in 1995.

C4S had turbo body, brakes, suspension bits, and higher trim level...I think (standard 10 speaker system , etc.)

I chose the C4S because I love the look, expect it to hold it's value better, and wanted the "big reds". Ultimately, choose the car that appeals to you.

Everytime I see Bill's car I have to borrow one of my son's bibs due to the drool factor!

My first choice of color for my C4S was black, but Bill's blue and guards red were my next choices.

There is a 1996 C4S in a lot by my house listed for $39,999. I stopped by and looked at it the other day. 60 somthing thousand miles. Blue with Tan interior. Looked to be in good shape. I did notice a sticker that said "Reid Vann" on the window. That is where I take my car for service. They are thought to be about the best in St. Louis for servicing pcars. I'm sure they could give you some history on the car if you are interested.

I have no connection to the car...just thouth you may be interested.

I think that car was on eBay not too long ago - is it Zenith Blue? If so, it's a beautiful car.

A Zenith Blue C4S with tan interior - it doesn't get any better than this:

Zenith blue rocks. I was in my 993 at 7-11 last Sat. when a zenith blue C4S pulled in behind me. He had the turbo spoiler too, but his brakes were the black ones like on my C2. But his car just looked sooo awesome. I also think an S may have a nicer dash. I checked a local one out for a Rennlister from Chicago and the dash was much nicer than mine. It was very soft leather with a stitched seam on the edges.

Blacks not so bad! Incidentally, unless that C4S owner decided to paint his big reds black, it was a C2S.

Addison,

Is that your C4S? If so, then those are great looking rims. I guess I'll see it up close on the 17th. Take care.

Yes, adscab's black 4S looks killer with the HREs (IMO). here it is with a real '89 turbo cab
Richard. the S dash is the same as the regular 993 dash. the car you saw had the leather dash option. it was available as an option on all 993s. i think the console was also covered with leather as well as some other bits.
i have the regular plastic/vinyl dash in my C2S. the guages in the 2S are a little different, they have dark silver metallic rings that Porsche called "titanium?" in color. (matched the shift knob and door sills), and the speedo has "Carrera S" script on the face.
