				964 1990 c4? what to do

I am looking for a 993 C4 and can not seem to locate a nice one in my price range $35K, however I keep seeing NICE 964 1990 c4. Infact there is what appears to be a pristine 1990 c4 targa with 51K for 25K about a 1/2 hours drive from here. My heart was kind of set on the 993 but I was thinking for 25K couldnt you put 5K into the 964, upgrade the brakes, muffler, and put a chip in it and have something that competes with a 993? also is it possible to put a rack on a targa to carry a surfboard? I love taking a nice drive down the coast, surfing for a few hours and then blasting home... if a 964 targa accepts a rack that would be ideal!

While most people agree that the 993 looks better, the 964 offers nearly the same performance. IIRC, the are quite a few parts from the 964 carried over to the 993. I'd buy the 964 C4 and save the rest of the money to use on repairs that will inevitably crop up.

I'd hold out for the 993. Patience is the key. There are plenty of good 993's out there. If you settle in your own mind, you will not be happy, no matter how nice you make the 964. BTW, $25K for a 90 C4 Targa is way too high.

				good deal?

What is a "good deal" for a clean 964 C4 targa with 51K in good condition. I thought 25K would have been in the ball park and not " way too high". Where can I find comps for this? any ideas?

The 964 C4 4WD setup that makes it a bit of a pig at the track (understeers). The 993 C4 uses a different system. -Chris

I'm in the 993 camp. They are falling in price and as long as your not too anxious, a nice one can be found. I'm surprised you found an early 964 C4. I thought they were exported to Canada for oval ice racing | ||

RDKing, Have patience and patience. This is buyer's market now. I just bought a 90 Cab White for $15K in CA. Ebay listing tends to be high. Check out autotraders.com and cars.com. Car from CA had higher value than other states. The whole process took me few months. Good luck in your quest. By the way i know a guy in Alexandria VA who has a 91 Black Targa 90K miles asking for $21K OBO. PM me if you are interested.

You shouldn't have any problem finding a 993 C4 for that price if you are willing to wait. I passed on a fair number of C4 cars early this year while looking for my C4S...good luck!
